Overview

Looking for somewhere with the space of a private home, the interiors of a design-led retreat, and the effortless service of a 5-star hotel – while still welcoming tiny travellers (and dogs too)? It sounds like an impossible task…until you arrive at Bibury Farm Barns that is

Set on the edge of a working farm in the Cotswolds, Bibury Farm Barns is a masterclass in countryside cool. This is not the kind of twee rural retreat filled with gingham & chintz, instead, the barns blend clean-lined Scandinavian style with warm natural textures, statement lighting, and the sort of design details that look as though they’ve been lifted straight from the pages of an interior design magazine. Despite the immaculate finish, the atmosphere remains deeply cosy; with roaring fires, enormous sink-into sofas, and Superking beds layered with hotel-worthy linens

The experience is elevated further by a highly personalised concierge service that feels more boutique hotel than self-catering stay – handling everything from restaurant bookings and private chefs to spa treatments, local experiences and insider recommendations

The barns are brilliantly flexible, whether you’re escaping as a smaller family or gathering the whole crew for a multi-generational stay, with beautifully considered layouts sleeping 6-10 and dogs warmly welcomed throughout. Every barn is genuinely showstopping, but the standout has to be the Old Hay Barn, sleeping 8 across four stylish bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, complete with a dedicated games room (table tennis included) and a private hot tub

Food is a huge part of the appeal here too, with two lovely spots reachable on foot from the barns themselves. Eleven Bibury is a stylish café, deli and cocktail terrace overlooking the famous Arlington Row, while the gorgeous riverside Swan Brasserie is perfect for leisurely lunches, afternoon teas and locally inspired dinners, both just a short stroll away in Bibury village. Venture slightly further afield and you’ll find elevated pub classics at The Village Pub in Barnsley alongside standout fine dining at The Potager at Barnsley House, while The Wild Duck in Ewen and the much-loved Sherborne Arms in Northleach are both firmly worth booking ahead for

Beyond base, the postcard-perfect streets of Bibury await, alongside some of the Cotswolds’ prettiest walking trails, winding through landscapes worthy of a coffee table book. Whether you’re a gentle rambler, dedicated dog walker or ambitious hiker, there are endless routes straight from the doorstep. Perfectly positioned for easy exploring, days can easily be spent hopping between beloved villages like Burford, Bourton-on-the-Water and Stow-on-the-Wold, or delighting younger travellers with adventures at Cotswold Wildlife Park, Birdland, Cotswold Farm Park and the lakeside beauty of Cotswold Water Park. For longer outings, there’s everything from Blenheim Palace and Westonbirt Arboretum to steam railways and even the much-loved Giffords Circus rolling through each summer

    Mama Holly

Parent to Tiny Traveller aged 2

Tucked away in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside, Bibury Farm Barns felt wonderfully private and peaceful while still being brilliantly located for exploring the surrounding villages. The decor was classic modern Cotswolds that felt luxurious without being overly polished. It had the perfect balance of cosy and stylish. We actually loved it so much after our first stay that we booked to return with our extended family to celebrate my mother-in-law’s 70th birthday

    Worth waking the baby for

    01

    Giffords Circus

Just when you think the Cotswolds couldn’t get more charming, along comes Giffords Circus, a travelling slice of vintage magic that pops up in villages across the region each summer. Think old-world big top glamour, live music, acrobats and a wonderfully nostalgic feel that feels straight out of a storybook, equal parts whimsical and wildly entertaining for all ages. It’s an easy win for families, especially with younger children who’ll be completely transfixed from the first act to the final bow

    02

    Cotswolds Wildlife Park

Just 15 minutes from Bibury Farm Barns, Cotswold Wildlife Park is one of those rare attractions that genuinely keeps every age happy, from toddlers to teens (and the grown-ups & dogs too). Set within 160 acres of parkland, it’s home to everything from giraffes and rhinos to penguins, lemurs and a brilliantly interactive children’s farmyard, all with the bonus of wide-open spaces, adventure playgrounds and even a miniature railway for little explorers. Families can easily spend a full day here, although we’d recommend bringing your own picnic on a weekend. It pairs beautifully with a wander into nearby Burford afterwards for ice creams, riverside strolls or a cosy pub stop

    03

    Blenheim Palace

Around a 35-minute drive from Bibury Farm Barns, Blenheim Palace offers a memorable day out steeped in history, grandeur and adventure. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, the palace is surrounded by more than 2,000 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland and formal gardens. Families can wander through the magnificent State Rooms, explore the winding pathways and lakeside trails, and enjoy the popular Adventure Play area, with plenty of space for children to climb, run and burn off steam
