Overview
Amidst vine-covered rolling hills, sat quietly next to the majestic Douro river, you’ll find a romantic 19th century manor house; impeccably decorated, with a gorgeous spa, sparkling pools and glorious gardens. Blending seamlessly into the beautiful landscape, a stay at Six Senses Douro Valley is to be at one with nature – whether mixing magical potions from plants at the spa’s Alchemy Bar, sipping your way through the region’s finest wines on a Sommelier tour, or forest bathing in the wonderful surrounding woodlands. So far, so grown up, but what about tiny travellers? This is a hotel focused on wellness for the whole family. Beyond just being warmly welcomed, all children under 12 stay for free (in either a cot or extra bed), while tinies 5 years and younger enjoy the children’s menu on a complimentary basis. There are tons of outdoor adventures to be had – from kayaking, to mountain biking, tree climbing and stand up paddle boarding, or if you’d rather lean into a slower way of life, picnics, river cruises and, of course, sparkling swimming pools await. There’s no Kids Club but instead, an activity hut full of toys and games for all ages. As for the little luxuries that make life with kids easier, there babysitters are available plus laundry & room service

Favourite room
For a truly indulgent escape, ticking big boxes for both space and serenity, we’d opt for a 2 bedroom Pool Villa. A lovely big tub makes bathtime a breeze, and the gazebo-shaded daybed is the perfect snoozing spot – the only problem being, you won’t want to go home

Reviews from other parents
Sixs Senses Douro Valley is our go-to for an easy family getaway, and we’ve been back time and time again since the girls were born. We did not expect a beautiful wine-oriented hotel to be child friendly, but the first time we went was with a two year old in tow and it was so gorgeous we could have stayed forever. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating, the food was perfect, the pool heavenly
