There’s arctic adventures aplenty to be had outside, from heli-skiing and ice swimming to snowmobile, husky & reindeer safaris. Next door is SantaPark, a Christmas theme park where tiny travellers can meet the main man, ride on the magic train and enjoy elf workshops, as well as private one on one magical experiences at Santa Claus Secret Forest. Not just a winter wonderland, there’s plenty of year round outdoor pursuits to partake in. Visit during the summer for the magical Midnight Sun (and significantly lower prices)

One of our most memorable holidays was to the Arctic TreeHouse hotel. The sun never quite rises so if the sky is clear there’s a stunning ethereal pink light for a few hours a day. With that and snow as deep and as far as the eye can see, the children were mesmerised. There are adventures galore to be enjoyed in the Frozen-style landscape, from husky trips to the Joulukka forest, to ice climbing, fishing and skidoos for older children. We were even lucky enough to witness the amazing Aurora on a night expedition. It’s all pure magic, just make sure to book everything well in advance
