How to entertain your tiny traveller when travelling

We all know entertaining toddlers takes maximum effort and it can be daunting knowing you have a long journey ahead. Our motto: ‘preparation is key’ enabling you to relax safe in the knowledge you have some strategies up your sleeve to survive that flight! We asked Clothilde, mama of three & founder of eco toy store Eeny Meeny, to share her top tips when it comes to travel toys

Words by Jo Hogg

1. Consider suitcase space

Travelling light with tiny travellers is a challenge at the best of times, so consider toys that take up minimal space in that oh-so-needed hand luggage. I love this re-usable colouring place mat which simply rolls up and slides into a backpack & can be enjoyed time and time again!

2. Versatile toys for the win

One of my absolute favourite tips for travelling with my daughter is a soft doll that has multiple uses – as a much loved play friend & a sleep companion too.  The Dinkum Dolls are simply adorable and last the test of time

3. Inspire their creativity

Plus-Plus has really gained popularity over the past year or so. and it’s easy to see why. Made in Denmark at a wind-powered factory, the construction games offer countless possibilities for play. This handy suitcase has everything you need to get started in travel friendly form

4. Go pocket size

Londji games, especially their pocket-sized games, are a BIG hit. Not widely distributed in the UK, they feature super simple open-ended rules, promoting play as a way to spend time with loved ones. Made from FSC paper and cardboard in Spain, these products are truly beautiful and very popular with both kids and adults alike

5. Keep them busy

Covered in mad mazes, dot to dots, noughts and crosses, word searches, snakes and ladders and loads of crazy creatures, this Eggnogg poster/tablecloth is sure to keep children busy all week long. Pair with the OMY washable pens and it means it can be re-used time and time again, the ultimate sustainable duo

6. Double up

This gorgeous lion teether doubles up as a bath toy too & can be attached to the stroller with its hook, hopefully ensuring it returns home with you after your trip. The design includes a range of textures, making it very pleasing for little ones to soothe teething gums, helping keep them comfortable too
