Parent pleasing to me means holidaying somewhere laid back and off the beaten track, with lots of sights to see (and ideally a few great little restaurants, too). I'm a serial road tripper - some of our favourite places we've travelled with Maggie have been Montenegro, Basque Country, Bulgaria & Switzerland. I love quirky, characterful hotels and home stays that aren't conventionally 'family friendly' yet warmly welcome tiny travellers

  • The Farm at Avebury

    Avebury, UK

    The Farm at Avebury is the ultimate wholesome weekend away. From the unbelievably cool yet cosy interiors (including the most instagrammable bathroom, probably ever) to the fresh farm produce available to pre order (I cannot recommend the steaks highly enough), no detail has been overlooked. The perfect place to slow the pace, there are baby animals to feed, a beautiful, sprawling National Trust nextdoor to explore, and plenty of quaint coffee shops and boutiques to browse in nearby market town Marlborough

  • Gut Damp Holiday Lofts

    Damp, Germany

    Gut Damp Holiday Lofts have been at the top of my trip wish list for I don't know how long. In North Germany, they're right on the beautiful Baltic coast, with untouched, rugged beaches, dense verdant forests, and tiny thatched German villages to explore. Their on site restaurant, KuhHaus, looks insane - relaxed, rustic and cosy, serving delicious fresh, seasonal produce. The lofts have been impeccably renovated, spacious, light and full of exposed bricks and beams with home from home touches including a freshly baked bread service

  • Bluebell Copse Cottages

    New Forest, UK

    Bluebell Copse Cottages are one of those magical places that have an instant calming effect. They're unbeatably located in the New Forest, and are just 5 minutes away from Peppa Pig World (as a previous naysayer, I now consider myself a total convert. Trust me, give it a go). It's immediately obvious host Louise is a mum, providing a toy box in the living room, children's books on beds, plus stickers, scavenger hunts & pic'n'mix at check in whilst adults are spoilt with fresh eggs, vases of beautiful flowers and a hot tub under the stars
