A reinvention of the all inclusive, Ikos has become synonymous with ease and elevated family-focused facilities. Ikos has taken the all-inclusive concept and given it a seriously luxurious makeover, with Michelin-starred chefs, à la carte restaurants, gorgeous beaches, lovely pools and service that makes you feel as though someone’s always one step ahead of you
For families, the magic is that grown-up luxury and child-friendly facilities actually work together. You can enjoy a proper meal, a decent glass of wine and a stylish room, while the children have their own clubs, activities and entertainment
At every resort there’s childcare for little ones from 6 months at the paid for crèche, a complimentary kids’ clubs for ages 4 to 12 and activities for older children and teens. All the childcare is supervised by qualified professionals following UK Ofsted standards with strict staff-to-child ratios. Babysitting is available to book at an extra charge and baby equipment and freshly prepared baby food can also be arranged
Then there’s the all-inclusive bit. And boy is it good. Think cocktails by the pool, restaurant meals rather than endless buffet dinners, drinks and snacks delivered to your sun lounger and room service. All tastes and dietary requirements are catered for – vegans and vegetarians will be delighted by the menus. Plus you can even try selected local restaurants through Ikos’s Dine Out concept, so you’re not confined to the resort for every meal
Of course, all this comes at a price. Ikos is firmly in the luxury bracket, and the cost can climb considerably for larger rooms, private pools and Deluxe Collection accommodation. But if you want a holiday where the children are genuinely catered for and you get to enjoy a little luxury too, it’s easy to see why families keep coming back
What's actually included?
All inclusive here means Michelin-starred menus, 24-hour room service, branded spirits and over 300 local and international wines
Families are particularly well looked after too. Children’s menus are available, and baby food can be prepared on request. The Heroes Kids’ Club for 4 – 12-year-olds is complimentary, while teen activities are available at participating resorts. Crèche care for babies and younger children is also offered from six months, although this is generally chargeable and should be booked ahead. There’s even a 30-minute ‘beach watch’ service where tiny travellers 4+ are supervised for sandy fun. Every resort has combination of playgrounds, heated pools, splash pools and water parks or slides
There are plenty of extras beyond food and drink, too. Depending on the resort and availability, these can include watersports, sports facilities, cultural experiences and the chance to take an electric MINI out for a day to explore the local area. The Dine Out concept is another lovely touch, allowing guests to enjoy selected local restaurants as part of their all-inclusive stay
Upgrade to the Deluxe Collection and you’ll get additional perks, which may include access to exclusive pools and beach areas, a dedicated concierge, enhanced room amenities, more restaurant-booking privileges, premium dining experiences and extra benefits for families
The important thing to remember is that not every extra is available at every resort or included in every room category. Check the precise package before booking, particularly if you’re counting on crèche sessions, babysitting or Deluxe benefits

What are the price differences?
Ikos is a luxury holiday, so it’s worth being realistic about the budget. Prices vary hugely depending on when you travel, how many people are sharing, the room category and whether you want extras such as a private pool or a Deluxe Collection suite
Generally speaking, Oceania and Olivia tend to be among the more affordable options, making them worth investigating if you want the Ikos experience without going straight to the highest price bracket. Dassia can also be a good starting point, although prices vary depending on room type and season
At the other end of the scale, Andalusia, Porto Petro and Kissamos can command higher prices, particularly for larger accommodation and peak summer dates. Aria and Odisia also move up the price ladder depending on the room and travel dates. These are broad patterns rather than a fixed ranking, so always compare like-for-like dates and room categories
Plenty of price point options
Your accommodation choice can make a substantial difference. A standard double room will usually be much less expensive than a family suite, a room with a private pool or a multi-bedroom villa. If you’re travelling with older children, it’s worth comparing the cost of a larger suite with two connecting rooms; the extra space and privacy can be worth paying for, particularly if you’re staying for a week or more
Timing is key
Timing matters, too. July and August are generally the most expensive months, while May, June and September can offer better value and more comfortable temperatures for exploring. Do check opening dates if you’re considering an early- or late-season stay, as not all resorts operate for the same length of time
And don’t forget that the headline price includes a great deal of food, drink and entertainment, so compare the overall holiday cost rather than just the room rate. You may pay more upfront than you would at a conventional hotel, but you’re unlikely to be adding quite so many extras to the bill once you arrive
Which Ikos is best for each age?
Babies: Ikos Olivia
All eight Ikos resorts are incredibly equipped for families with babies, with a Heroes Crèche from 6 months, baby equipment and freshly prepared baby food available on request. The crèche is chargeable, so check availability and book ahead
Ikos Olivia is a particularly lovely choice for babies because its extensive, flat, green grounds are easier to navigate with a buggy, and its long sandy beach has gently shelving, shallow water. It has a relaxed, family-friendly feel without sacrificing the luxury. Ikos Odisia is another excellent option if buggy-friendly paths and low-rise buildings are high on your wish list. And if you’re more pool than beach people, Ikos Andalusia deserves a mention for its cute little tipis in the crèche
Toddlers: Ikos Olivia
Toddlers need space to toddle, sand to shovel, water to splash in and somewhere to burn off the energy that seems to come from nowhere. Olivia ticks plenty of boxes, with its sandy beach, shallow water, splash area and green, relatively easy-to-navigate setting. It’s a particularly good match for little ones who are happiest pottering between the beach and pool. Ikos Odisia is a close contender, with its low-rise layout, sheltered beach, splash area and fantastic outdoor kids’ club space. If your toddler is approaching four and desperate to join in with the big kids, remember that the complimentary Heroes Kids’ Club is generally for ages four to 12, while crèche care is available for younger children from six months
Kids: Ikos Kissamos
For primary-school-aged children, Ikos Kissamos is a brilliant all-rounder for fun, with eight heated pools, a splash area, a playground and plenty of opportunities to get involved in sports and activities
Across the Ikos collection, children aged four to 12 can join the complimentary Heroes Kids’ Club, with activities including sports, arts and crafts, games, pool and beach parties, baking, yoga and Junior Scientists sessions. The Kids’ Supper Club is another handy option: children can enjoy a buffet, activities and a mini disco from 7pm to 10pm, while parents have dinner. It’s chargeable per session, although Deluxe guests may receive it as an included benefit, subject to availability and the terms of their booking
Teenagers: Ikos Odisia
Teenagers can be a tricky crowd to please, but Odisia is a great bet for families with active older children. There are floodlit tennis courts, football pitches, watersports and plenty of room to get involved in activities and meet other young people. Its relaxed setting also makes it feel less like a resort designed entirely around little children. The Just4Teens programme offers age-appropriate activities and social opportunities across the collection, although the exact programme varies by resort. If watersports are top of your teenager’s wish list, Ikos Aria is another property to check out and Oceania is worth considering for its watersports and Football Academy, while Porto Petro has tennis and paddleboarding. But don’t assume every resort offers exactly the same sports, so check what’s running during your stay
Multi-generational families: Ikos Porto Petro
When you’re travelling with grandparents, parents, teenagers and little ones, having enough space for everyone is essential. Ikos Porto Petro is a particularly good option thanks to its larger accommodation choices, including multi-bedroom villas, giving families more room to spread out while still enjoying time together. Its setting between two pretty coves is lovely for a relaxed family holiday, and the nearby marina offers a change of scene if grandparents fancy a stroll while the younger generation heads for the pool. Odisia and Andalusia are also worth considering if you need spacious villas or suites, but compare the layouts carefully: separate bedrooms and bathrooms can make all the difference when you’re travelling with teenagers
The best all-rounder: Ikos Odisia
If we had to pick one resort that does a particularly good job of catering for different ages, Ikos Odisia is it. Its low-rise, green setting feels relaxed and is relatively buggy-friendly, while the sheltered beach and splash area work well for younger children. There are ten heated pools, an excellent outdoor kids’ club area, and plenty of sports and watersports to keep older children and teenagers occupied
It also works well for parents who want a little luxury alongside all the family fun, with a beautiful setting and the option to explore Corfu beyond the resort. Olivia might just edge it for families with very young babies or toddlers who want a long, sandy beach, and Kissamos is a strong choice for children who love pools and playgrounds. But for a family with a mix of ages, Odisia is a very safe bet
Where are they all located?
One of the great things about the Ikos collection is that you can enjoy its signature luxury all-inclusive experience in several different corners of the Mediterranean, from the sandy beaches of mainland Greece to the laid-back coves of Mallorca and the sunny shores of Spain’s Costa del Sol
Here’s where you’ll find them and how long it takes to get there from the airport
Ikos Olivia is tucked away on the beautiful Kassandra peninsula in Halkidiki, on mainland Greece. It’s around 45 minutes by car from Thessaloniki International Airport
Ikos Oceania is also in Halkidiki, overlooking the Aegean Sea near Nea Moudania. The transfer from Thessaloniki International Airport takes approximately 40 minutes
Ikos Odisia is on the east coast of Corfu. It’s around a 20-minute drive from Corfu International Airport
Ikos Dassia is also on Corfu’s east coast, just across the bay from Ikos Odisia. It shares the same convenient airport, with a transfer of around 20 minutes
Ikos Aria occupies a lovely beachfront spot on the southwest coast of Kos. It’s approximately a 20-minute drive from Kos International Airport
Ikos Andalusia is on Spain’s sunny Costa del Sol, close to Marbella and the resort town of Estepona. Málaga Airport is less than an hour away by car
Ikos Porto Petro is on Mallorca’s southeast coast, near the pretty fishing village and marina of Porto Petro. It’s less than an hour’s drive from Palma de Mallorca Airport
Ikos Kissamos is on the northwest coast of Crete. The drive from Chania International Airport takes around 40 minutes
When's best to visit?
One of the great things about the Ikos collection is that you don’t necessarily have to travel in the height of summer to enjoy a fabulous family holiday. If you’re after some out-of-season sunshine (and potentially better prices), the resorts open at different times throughout spring, giving you a few options for an Easter escape or an early-season break
Ikos Oceania, Olivia and Dassia open at the end of March, making them good options for getting away early
Kissamos opens in mid-April. Aria and Andalusia follow at the end of April
Odisia opens in mid-May and Porto Petro joins the party in mid-June.
All the resorts remain open until late October, although the Spanish summer at Ikos Andalusia stretches the longest, making it a particularly good option if you’re looking for some autumn sunshine
Spring and autumn can be lovely times to visit if you prefer exploring without the peak-summer heat and crowds, and you may find better value than during the school summer holidays. Just bear in mind that the weather can be less predictable at either end of the season, particularly if your idea of a perfect holiday involves spending every waking hour in the pool. Ikos pools are heated, but it’s still worth checking the facilities and activities available for your dates
In a nutshell, which one is right for me?
If you’re looking for tried-and-tested service: Olivia, Dassia and Oceania
There’s something reassuring about choosing an Ikos that’s been welcoming families for years. Olivia, Dassia and Oceania are established favourites, with plenty of experience in getting the little details right, from remembering your favourite drink to making family mealtimes run like clockwork. Oceania is the original Ikos, with a loyal following of repeat guests who love its polished service, while Olivia has that same well-practised approach, with a relaxed, family-friendly layout and a lovely sandy beach that is great for tinies. Dassia is the liveliest of the three, with a huge choice of restaurants, pools and activities, plus a handy 20-minute transfer from Corfu Airport. If you want the Ikos experience without feeling as though you’re taking a punt on somewhere new, these are a great place to start
If you’re looking for postcard-perfect beaches: Aria, Olivia, Oceania and Kissamos
A gorgeous beach can make or break a family holiday, particularly when your children are happiest with a bucket, spade and a few hours of splashing about. Olivia is a standout for younger families, with a long stretch of soft sand and shallow water that makes paddling with toddlers much less stressful. Oceania also has a lovely Blue Flag beach, with beautiful views across the sea, although the resort itself is set on a hillside. Aria has a stunning beachfront setting, but the beach can be rockier in places, so it isn’t necessarily the best choice for toddlers who want to spend all day digging in the sand. Kissamos boasts a gorgeous coastal setting on Crete’s less-developed western side, with access to beautiful beaches, hidden coves and boat trips nearby. It’s a brilliant option if you fancy combining pool days with a little exploring, rather than spending every minute on the same stretch of sand
If you’re looking for more of a boutique hotel vibe: Odisia, Aria and Porto Petro
Not every luxury resort needs to feel like a grand hotel. Odisia has a more natural, village-like feel, with low-rise buildings tucked into landscaped grounds, plenty of greenery and a more secluded beach setting than neighbouring Dassia. It’s spread out, but the architecture and setting help it feel relaxed rather than imposing. Aria has a dreamy beachfront position and a stylish, luxurious atmosphere, with outstanding views and particularly appealing Deluxe Collection accommodation. It feels special without being overly formal, making it a good choice for families who want a little extra polish. Porto Petro is the one to consider if you like your luxury with a laid-back Mediterranean feel. Nestled between two pretty coves, it has leafy gardens, low-rise accommodation and a more intimate atmosphere than some of the larger resorts. All three offer the full Ikos experience, but their settings feel a little more individual and less like a traditional mega-resort
If you’re looking for the ultimate family fly-and-flop: Kissamos, Odisia, Olivia and Dassia
Sometimes you don’t want to hire a car, plan excursions or think too hard about anything beyond whether everyone’s had enough suncream. You’re just after an easy transfer, a lovely room, plenty of pools and food that everyone will actually eat. Kissamos is a tempting option for this sort of holiday, with its heated pools, splash area, playground and family activities, plus a relatively straightforward transfer from Chania Airport. Odisia has an excellent selection of pools, a splash area, sports and a fantastic kids’ club, all in a relaxed, lush setting. Olivia is a particularly good fit for families with toddlers thanks to its sandy beach, shallow water and easy-going atmosphere. Dassia is another winner if convenience matters: the transfer from Corfu Airport is around 20 minutes, and once you’re there, you’ve got a long sandy beach, lots of pools, restaurants and entertainment to keep everyone happy. All four make it easy to settle in, unpack once and let the holiday come to you
If you’re looking for nearby towns and local life: Olivia, Oceania, Aria and Porto Petro
Ikos does the all-inclusive bubble brilliantly, but sometimes it’s nice to escape for a wander, browse a few shops or have a change of scene beyond the resort gates. Olivia gives you the option of trying local tavernas through the Dine Out concept, so you can enjoy a taste of Halkidiki without having to organise every detail yourself. Oceania is great if you fancy the idea of visiting a nearby town on foot, giving you a chance to stretch your legs and see a little more of everyday Greek life. At Aria, you can explore Kos’s historic sights and discover more of the island beyond the beach, although you’ll need to plan transport for outings further afield. Porto Petro is the one for those who like a little independence, with the pretty resort town of Cala d’Or around a ten-minute drive away. It’s ideal for an evening stroll, a browse around the marina or a change from resort dining. These resorts let you enjoy Ikos’s effortless luxury while still having the option to get out and about

Ikos Olivia: The best value for money

Set on a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach in Halkidiki, Ikos Olivia was one of the original resorts to establish the brand’s reputation for effortlessly luxurious family holidays. First and foremost this is a stunning beach resort – think turquoise sea with a backdrop of pine and fir trees. It’s big, but not overwhelmingly enormous, and it also tends to sit towards the more affordable end of the Ikos collection, making it a tempting option if you fancy all the five-star bells and whistles without stretching to the priciest property
One of Olivia’s biggest selling points is just how easy it is to navigate. The resort is predominantly low-rise and flat, making it a top pick for families with toddlers who insist on walking everywhere at approximately 0.2 miles per hour and parents who would rather not spend their holiday pushing a buggy up a hill. The 450m sandy beach is another major win, with gently shelving, shallow water that’s particularly appealing for little ones
Younger children can burn off some energy in the splash area or on the mini trampolines, while grown-ups can look forward to the excellent dining. The teppanyaki experience is a particular highlight, adding a little theatre to dinner. There are also private-pool accommodation options if you fancy an extra touch of luxury, particularly handy for families who like to hang out back at their base
A dream beach
Olivia has had a glow-up over the years, bringing its accommodation and facilities up to date while retaining the leafy, relaxed character that guests have loved for so long. And while you could happily spend the whole holiday enjoying the beach, pools and restaurants, there’s the option to venture beyond the resort, too. The Ikos Dine Out programme lets you sample selected local tavernas, giving you a taste of Halkidiki without having to organise every detail yourself
There are a couple of things to bear in mind before booking. The transfer from Thessaloniki Airport takes around 45 minutes, so it’s not quite as quick as the journey to the Corfu resorts. Olivia also has a smaller selection of pools and restaurants than some of the larger Ikos properties, and families looking for a huge range of sports facilities or an enormous choice of accommodation may find more to suit them elsewhere in the collection

Ikos Oceania: The best affordable option

Oceania is the original Ikos that opened in 2015 and set the standard for the rest. Sitting just above a 350m Blue Flag beach near Nea Moudania in Halkidiki, it has spectacular views across the Aegean, lush greenery and a more intimate atmosphere than some of its larger siblings – and plenty of repeat guests who love the vibe there. Service is a big part of the appeal. The team has over 10 years of experience delivering the Ikos experience, and there’s a reassuringly polished feel to it all. Everything is well practised, from the restaurants to the evening entertainment, without the resort losing its relaxed, welcoming vibe. And when it comes to value, Oceania is often one of the most affordable options of the 8 hotels
The big thing to understand before booking, though, is the hillside setting. Those spectacular sea views come at a price: the resort is arranged over different levels, which can make getting around more of a workout than at flatter, low-rise Olivia or Odisia. With babies and toddlers, this is worth thinking about carefully, particularly if you’ll be pushing a buggy or making repeated trips between your room, the beach and the restaurants. It’s not necessarily a deal-breaker, but if easy, flat access is top of your wish list, this possibly won’t be your first choice
The one that set the standard
Oceania also has fewer outdoor facilities than some of the newer Ikos resorts, and there’s no dedicated splash park, which may disappoint little water babies. But there’s still plenty to entertain kids such as indoor and outdoor play areas and a Football Academy, while grown-ups can look forward to yoga, a wonderful spa and water sports. The buffet and evening entertainment are indoors, although the shows are a real highlight and provide plenty of fun once the sun goes down. Provence is a standout for a more grown-up meal, and the nearby town is within walking distance if you fancy a wander beyond the resort. The Local Discovery experience also gives you opportunities to explore the surrounding area rather than spending every minute within the hotel grounds
Accommodation-wise, Oceania has less choice for larger families and multi-generational groups than some of its siblings, and its Deluxe facilities are currently more limited. A refurbishment programme is planned over the next couple of years, so it’s worth checking which areas have been updated by the time you travel. Ultimately, Oceania is a great choice for families who value established service, wonderful views, a lovely beach and good value over having the newest facilities or the biggest selection of pools

Ikos Odisia: The best for active families

Across the bay from Ikos Dassia on Corfu, Ikos Odisia is a rather gorgeous take on the family resort. Opened in 2023, it’s one of the newer properties and you’ll find stylish modern buildings, lovely leafy gardens and a laid-back feel that makes it seem more boutique than mega-hotel. Despite having a LOT going on, it never feels too imposing. One of Odisia’s biggest wins for families with babies and toddlers is that it’s flat and pushchair-friendly. No huffing and puffing up hills with a buggy, thank you very much! Just bear in mind that the resort is pretty spread out, so where you stay can make a difference. The Garden Village accommodation is quite a trek from the beach, which might not sound like much until you’re doing the walk three times a day with a sleepy toddler and a bucket and spade

Ikos Dassia: The best for a speedy transfer

If you like your family holidays with a gorgeous beach, lots going on and enough choice to keep everyone happy (without having to leave the resort), Dassia is a bit of an all-round superstar. One of the biggest Ikos resorts by room numbers, it has a livelier, more traditional holiday-resort feel than its neighbour across the bay, Ikos Odisia. Set on Corfu’s east coast, it boasts a whopping 600m stretch of fine white sand – the sort of beach where the children can spend hours building sandcastles and splashing
Dassia is spread across different levels, with taller, more traditional hotel buildings rather than Odisia’s low-rise, tucked-into-the-greenery look. It gives the resort a different feel, but there’s a practical point to consider if you’re travelling with little ones: it’s not quite as easy to navigate with a pushchair as flatter Odisia or Olivia
Deluxe rooms are also dotted around the resort rather than grouped together in one handy little corner, so it’s worth checking exactly where your room is before booking. Nobody wants a lengthy trek back for the forgotten swim nappy!
So many amazing activities
Where Dassia really comes into its own is choice. There are eight heated pools, a splash area, plenty of restaurants and watersports, so you can be as active or as gloriously lazy as you like. And it’s not just about flopping by the pool. There are two floodlit tennis courts, mountain biking, yoga, Pilates and aqua aerobics, plus windsurfing and introductory diving for anyone keen to try something new. Golfers can enjoy a complimentary round at Corfu Golf Club, either nine or 18 holes, with equipment, a buggy and transfers included. Not a bad excuse to sneak off for a few hours while the children are happily occupied in the kids’ club!
The little extras are lovely, too. There’s a complimentary sunset cruise, and a free shuttle to Corfu Town, around 15 minutes away, for a wander around the pretty streets and a change of scene. Other beaches and island attractions are within easy reach, and you can even dine at neighbouring Ikos Odisia, giving you two different resort settings to enjoy during your stay. It’s generally busier and buzzier than Odisia, and its lovely beach is more open and less tucked-away, which will suit families who enjoy a bit of holiday atmosphere. If you’re torn between the two, it really comes down to what matters most to your family: Dassia’s long sandy beach and lively resort feel, or Odisia’s flatter layout, sheltered beach and more natural setting

Ikos Aria: The best beach

Over on Kos, Ikos Aria is all about that gorgeous beachfront setting, spectacular sea views and a slightly grander, more expansive feel. There’s a real sense of place here, too, with ancient ruins and historic sights nearby, so you can sneak a little culture into your holiday between pool sessions and ice-cream stops. The complimentary museum pass, which gives you access to three museums on the island, is a lovely added extra, as is the sunset cruise. Who says a family holiday can’t be a little bit educational?
The beach is undeniably beautiful, although it’s a little rockier in places than the sandy stretches at Olivia or Dassia. It’s certainly not off-limits for little ones, but if your toddler’s idea of holiday heaven involves hours digging in soft sand and paddling in gloriously shallow water, we’d probably put those two higher up your list. It’s worth packing beach shoes, too, just to make exploring the shoreline a little more comfortable
Where Aria really shines is its Deluxe offering. If you’re looking to push the boat out on accommodation and service, this is one of the strongest contenders in the collection, with some lovely private-pool options. Just check the location of your room before booking, as some Beach Deluxe rooms are a bit of a walk from the Deluxe pool. That might not sound like a big deal until you’re making the return trip with three children, wet towels and someone who’s suddenly decided they absolutely cannot walk another step
All-inclusive with a side of culture
Foodies are very well catered for, with eight restaurants and nine bars, and the standout ice-cream parlour is likely to become a firm family favourite. There are mini trampolines to bounce on, too, while the watersports offering is a big draw for older children and teenagers who are ready for a bit more adventure than splashing about in the shallows. One thing to bear in mind if you’re travelling with younger children is that Aria doesn’t have a dedicated splash area. And there’s plenty to get stuck into beyond the beach. Active families can have a go at mountain biking, yoga, Pilates, TRX, HIIT, Tabata, circuit training and aqua aerobics. There are also four floodlit tennis courts, canoeing, pedalos and introductory diving lessons in the pool. Fancy a more tailored workout? Personal training is available for an additional charge if you want to burn off those holiday cocktails
Kos itself is a lovely option if you fancy a more relaxed Greek island holiday with a bit of history thrown in, and Aria makes it easy to combine lazy beach days with a little exploring. Overall, this resort is a particularly good match for families who want beautiful surroundings, a seriously impressive Deluxe experience and plenty to keep older children and teenagers happy

Ikos Andalusia: The best for foodies

Hola, España! Andalusia opened to much fanfare in 2021 when parents rejoiced at the prospect of an Ikos holiday less than a 3 hour flight away. The Costa del Sol property is gorgeous with landscaped gardens, elegant architecture and a slick, contemporary feel. It’s definitely one of the prettiest resorts in the collection, with lovely pools, swishy surroundings and a beachfront setting that looks every bit as glamorous as you’d hope. If you want to explore beyond the resort, this one has plenty going for it too
Let’s talk about the beach first though, because it’s worth managing expectations. It’s lovely having the sea on your doorstep, but this isn’t the most spectacular sandy beach in the Ikos collection, and the sea can have stronger tides and currents at times. At Andalusia, it’s the pools that really steal the show. And what pools they are! There are nine heated pools, plus a splash area, so water babies are very well catered for
The resort is also a brilliant choice for children who like to be kept busy. Its Kids’ Club is the largest in the Ikos collection, with loads of opportunities to get stuck into activities and make holiday friends. Add in tennis, football and swimming academies, beach volleyball, five-a-side football and complimentary bike hire, and there’s plenty to stop anyone announcing they’re bored five minutes after breakfast
Be by the pool in just a few hours
Grown-ups can join in, too, with spinning, aqua aerobics, Pilates and beginner yoga on offer. Golfers have another rather lovely perk: a complimentary green fee at Los Naranjos Golf Club once per golfer per stay, subject to eligibility. So if you fancy swapping the sun lounger for the fairway, you can do just that while the children enjoy their own holiday adventures. Accommodation is another big selling point, particularly if you’re travelling with grandparents or simply need a bit more breathing room. Andalusia is the only resort in the collection to offer villas, including some seriously spacious options for families who like having room to spread out and a little extra privacy. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to dining, too, so you can mix things up rather than feeling as though you’re eating in the same place every night
One of the other big advantages is the location. Marbella, Estepona and Puerto Banús are all within reach for a change of scene, whether you fancy a wander around pretty streets, a marina stroll or a spot of shopping. Andalusia is also worth considering outside the height of summer. The Costa del Sol can be lovely in the shoulder season, particularly if you’d rather explore without the full blast of midsummer heat. All in all, this place is a brilliant match for families who want stylish surroundings, superb childcare, heaps of activities and plenty of space, especially if you’re travelling with older children or a multi-generational gang. Just go for the pools, the food, the facilities and the gorgeous accommodation rather than expecting the beach to be the star of the show

Ikos Porto Petro: The best for walkability to a local town

If you fancy a little Balearic sunshine with your Ikos luxury, Porto Petro could be just the ticket. Tucked between two pretty sandy coves on Mallorca’s south-east coast, close to the charming fishing village it’s named after, this resort feels a little different from its Greek siblings. Think fresh, boho-inspired interiors, lovely landscaped gardens and a more laid-back vibe. And one of the best bits? You can actually get out and explore Mallorca without feeling as though you’re organising a military operation
The nearby harbour village is within easy reach, while Cala d’Or is around ten minutes away by car. Perfect if you fancy a wander around local shops, a nose around the marina or a harbour-side lunch. The Dine Out options are another big plus, giving you the chance to try local restaurants as part of the Ikos experience. So, if the thought of spending seven days without leaving the resort fills you with mild horror, Porto Petro is well worth a look
Back at the hotel, there are five heated pools, a splash area and a little slide to keep younger guests happy. The setting is generally flat, which is good news if you’re pushing a pram, although the resort is spread out. Buggy transfers are available to help you get around, so it’s worth checking how these work when booking if you don’t fancy clocking up your daily steps before breakfast
Explore Mallorca from your doorstep
The two coves are undeniably pretty, but do bear in mind that they’re not necessarily the easiest beaches for every family. Depending on the age of your children, you might find yourselves spending more time around the pools than on the sand. Jellyfish can occasionally affect swimming conditions, too, so keep an eye on local advice before heading into the sea. There’s plenty to do beyond splashing about. Active families can have a go at floodlit tennis, yoga, paddleboarding, snorkelling in the bay and mountain biking. Complimentary bike hire is a particularly lovely perk if you fancy exploring the waterfront and nearby villages on two wheels. Private boat trips, yacht hire, scuba diving and tennis lessons are also available for an additional cost. In other words, you can be as energetic or as gloriously horizontal as you please
Accommodation is another of Porto Petro’s strong points, especially if you’re travelling with grandparents or bringing the whole extended family along. There are larger options that give everyone a bit more breathing room, which can make all the difference when you’re sharing a holiday. As a newer addition to the collection, Porto Petro may not always feel quite as slick and seamless as the longer-established resorts when it comes to service. But the combination of lovely design, pretty coves and easy access to local life gives it a character all of its own

Being a brand new hotel, the aesthetics were pristine and shiny; think laidback boho vibes with a luxury twist. As part of our stay we received complimentary access to a Tesla for the day. If you’re after a luxury family holiday with a gorgeous Cretan backdrop, Ikos Kissamos is the new kid on the block worth having on your radar. Set on the spectacular coastline of Kissamos Bay in western Crete, just west of Chania, it brings the familiar Ikos mix of chic accommodation, amazing food and lots for the children to do, with some seriously lovely scenery on the doorstep
As the newest addition to the collection, everything has that fresh, contemporary feel. Think stylish rooms, landscaped grounds and plenty of space to spread out, with eight heated pools, a splash area and a playground to keep younger guests happy. There are also four tennis courts, two padel courts, a five-a-side football pitch and a Football Academy. And if you’re travelling with little ones, there are handy private-pool accommodation options to consider, too
Food is, of course, a big part of the Ikos experience, and Kissamos brings plenty of choice to the table, including teppanyaki for a bit of dinner-time theatre. There are some fun Greek touches woven into the restaurant experience, too, including plate smashing and Greek dancing. It’s a brilliant way to give children a little taste of local culture without having to persuade everyone to get dressed up and leave the resort for the evening
The exciting new member of the Ikos family
Childcare is another big plus for parents hoping to grab a little time to themselves. The Ikos Heroes offering caters for babies from six months, alongside activities for older children. And it’s not just the children who get to have all the fun. Active grown-ups can join in with beach volleyball, yoga, Pilates, stretching, gym classes and cycling, while complimentary canoeing, paddleboarding and pedalo sessions offer a lovely way to get out on the water. Fancy something a little more adventurous? Private boat trips, yacht hire and scuba diving are available at an additional cost. With so much on offer, you might need a holiday to recover from your holiday!
One of Kissamos’s biggest attractions is the opportunity to explore western Crete. The nearby town is within walking distance, while Chania is an easy drive away if you fancy a wander around its pretty harbour, shops and winding streets. This part of the island is also a fantastic base for discovering beautiful beaches, hidden coves and boat trips. The famous Balos Lagoon and Elafonissi Beach are tempting options for a day out, although do check journey times and access arrangements before setting off, especially with younger children in tow. Crete’s warm climate also makes Kissamos worth considering for a shoulder-season holiday, when you might prefer exploring without the height-of-summer heat. Just remember that temperatures, sea conditions and pool arrangements can vary depending on when you visit
Of course, being the newest Ikos resort means Kissamos doesn’t have the same long track record of guest feedback as its more established siblings. If you like booking somewhere with years of reviews to pore over, that’s worth bearing in mind, and it’s sensible to check the latest facilities and opening arrangements before committing. But if the idea of a fresh, contemporary resort with heaps of pools, excellent dining and some of Greece’s loveliest coastal scenery nearby sounds up your street Kissamos is a very exciting addition to the Ikos family

‘Our favourite restaurant had to be Kriti. The authentic Cretan menu was outstanding and our waiter, Ricky, guided us through dishes we probably wouldn’t have chosen ourselves.
