We’ve spent hours reading the hundreds of reviews you’ve shared with us, to produce a visited & verified mini guide to The best family friendly European campsites. We hope you find this really useful, and if you do, that you consider booking via our complimentary Tiny Travel Agency service or the affiliate links in the article (meaning we make a small commission, and can keep providing you with this kind of content!)
Our most passionately recommended camping spot, Yelloh Village Camping Les Mouettes in Brittany will convert even the most reluctant of explorers. Starting with the enviable location. From surf-friendly shores to sublime sandy stretches, there’s a beach for all types of coastal connoisseurs nearby. – plus the handy bus stop just outside the grounds makes exploring cheap and cheerful! Family facilities run the gamut from a huge pool, water slides and Kids Club 5 + (it is worth knowing they have limited slots so book fast!), to playroom for the tiniest of travellers and mini discos for petit party animals. There’s a choice of spacious pitches or pre-erected tents, sea-view cottages and large chalets, sleeping up to 6. A real find for foodies, the culinary offering here gets a big tick from us – we’re talking fresh oysters and mussels direct from sea to stomach! Happy campers all round
Less than 2 sq miles in size and sitting pretty off the coast of Naples (a 45 min ferry ride to be exact), pint-sized Procida is heaven for those seeking a stay true to the local lifestyle. Unlike its famous sister Capri, Procida is more about family-run trattorias and untrodden towns, than glitz & glam. Come for the archetypal Amalfi aesthetics – sweet streetscapes are full of pastel buildings perched on the hillside – without the summer crowds. Spenny savvy families are bound to fall head over heels for Procida Camp Ciraccio – a boutique glamping getaway whose modest prices combined with large lodges, home cooked meals & seafront location make it a complete (stylish) steal. Days can be spent exploring hidden beaches and secret coves before retiring to the spacious 2-bed tents, cocktail (courtesy of the onsite bar) in hand
A small glamping oasis in the heart of Slovenia, those venturing off the beaten track will be generously rewarded. Falkensteiner Lake Blagus combines the unequalled closeness to nature that camping addicts crave, with smartly designed scandi-chic forest cabins. These eco-friendly works of art are bathed in natural light thanks to huge windows, and can sleep up to 5 adults, with two bedroom options also promising air con & kitchenettes. Surrounded by dense forest, blooming meadows and a sparkling lake, days can be as unhurried, or active, as you like – with watersports, swimming, hiking, biking and horse riding all on the agenda. Slightly further afield, day trips to caves, castles and wineries can also be arranged. Planning to visit with your trusty tent? Pitches are available as well
Prepared to be seriously charmed. If you’re looking for a fairytale French escape to whisk the whole family off their feet, Colmar is the whimsical village to head to. Known as ‘Little Venice’ it’s home to a fleet of candy-coloured cottages, winding flagstone streets, plenty of wine lounges and a boat-dotted canal. Camping de I’ll is a stone’s throw from the centre, reached via a short stroll or easy peasy cycle. Open from March to early January, a stay here is steeped in nature, perched on the edge of the river. For Tiny Travellers, there’s a petit sized pool, mini splash area and tons of space for running around. Beyond Colmar, the rest of the Alsace region itself is ripe for exploring. Don’t miss Ribeauvillefor an epic playground & delish patisseries
A penny saving price tag is a shore-thing at Camping Serenella near Bardolino on the shores of Lake Garda. Nestled right on the lake, postcode is a big perk here – with the sights, snacks and shops of both Bardolino and Garda towns reachable in under 20 minutes on foot. Whilst Mother Nature offers her own playground in the background, there’s also a sprinkling of swimming pools, mini water slides, outdoor playground, daily crafting activities and nightly mini discos
Camp Vala is located in Mokalo, a small dot on the peninsula of Pelješac in Croatia. They have an onsite swimming pool, a lovely beach bar selling pizzas, salads, and ice creams alongside reasonably priced drinks, plus the most gorgeous pebble beach with classic Croatian super clear waters. Not too far from the beach there is a super cool shipwreck to snorkel and explore, perfect for cruising over on paddle boards. Nearby you’ll find plenty of wineries to explore and a smattering of reachable offshore islands. Guests can choose to bed down in their own tents, mobile homes or apartments
OK, we may be cheating a bit as this is actually a chain of campsites rather than one specifically, but we have heard glowing reports from a number of Huttopia sites. Why, I hear you ask? Well…they are brilliantly set up for families, but without feeling like you’re on a crazily busy holiday park. All of their sites have a swimming pool, play area and little bar that serves crepes, pizzas and local wines, but staff are full of recommendations for eating out in the local area too. In the morning, you can collect fresh pastries & bread that you pre-order the night before, and a few times a week they have a little market stall set up by local producers where you can buy fresh fruit, veg and local produce. Our 3 favourite Huttopia sites (if we really HAD to pick) have been Gorges du Verdon, Gorges du Tarn & Lac de Carcans
Camping Sirmione is a bit busier than the others campsites on this list, but the location plus the facilities for kids is awesome. There is a really great onsite swimming pool with a little splash area for the tiny tots, as well as two deeper pools for bigger kids. It is right on the lake, so you can step straight out of the campground and jump into the water. Just in front of the campsite is a big patch of grass, plus a volleyball court and trampolines. You can also hire pedalos, kayaks and SUPs three minutes away, and the restaurant has excellent pizzas, pastas and gelato, meaning happy, well fed kids! The camping pitches are quite close together, but as there’s so much to do, you don’t really spend much time at the tent
Arguably one of the most scenically situated campsites in Europe, Austria’s Ferienparadies Natterer See in Tyrol floors families who visit with showstopping mountainscape views. Hugging a sparkling lake, this sprawling woodland resort invites guests to pitch up their caravan, camper, tent or motorhome. For those who want their alfresco home from home ready and waiting for them, there’s also the choice of safari lodge tents, wood lodges and even floating homes on the water! Summer activities include guided mountain hikes, volleyball & tennis tournaments, archery and football tournaments. In July and August sprogs can check into the Kids Club, while those with a high activity appetite will love the ‘mega-aquapark’ with a water trampoline, ‘wiggle bridge’, and inflatable obstacle course
Marrying camping camaraderie with 5* resort resources, Yelloh Village Camping Le Brasilia offers a high end back-to-nature break in the Pyrenees. More open air luxury hotel than traditional home for tents, you get the fresh air fun of glamping life, but with the added appeal of an incredible spa & wellness area, delicious onsite restaurant dishing up magical Mediterranean menus, a Kids Club 5+ and robust agenda of activities for teens too. Direct beach access gets another big thumbs up from us, as does the actually really lovely to look at waterpark – with a heated paddling pool, water slides and hydromassage beds for supervising grown ups. Expect pitches for tents, caravans, campers and vans as well as fully equipped bungalows and cottages
Camping Acqua Dolce is a destination for those who want to explore the beauty of Italy’s Cinque Terre National Park, without forking up the eye watering prices hotels in this neck of the woods demand. Location wise, it’s situated in lovely Levanto (a super sweet beach town), just a 10 minute walk from the train station, followed by a further 5 minutes onboard to reach Monterosso. A 3* site, you won’t find much in the way of facilities here, with just pitches, a small pizzeria and playground, but the luscious location is the real star of the show
Campsites are far from common in Tuscany, the home of uber luxe hotels and agriturismos. Fringed by the region’s famous cypress trees, in the heart of charming Chianti, Orlando Glamping Resort opens the door to affordable outdoor adventures in Italy’s rolling countryside. Want that sleep-under-the-stars experience without sacrificing the boredom-busting facilities your high energy offspring demand? No problem. Alongside a zero-entry lagoon-like swim spot and main pool complete with plenty of loungers, there’s also a splash pad and mini waterslide. Children are also welcomed to the Kids Club (3+), to shake their tiny tailfeathers at the evening discos and to get behind the wheel of the pintsized Land Rovers
Positioning themselves as a 5* camping & wellness family resort, we’ve heard Lake Garda’s Fornella is nothing short of magical. A proud eco-resort, this is for those who prioritise both sustainable getaways and incredible family experiences. Sandwiched between the crystalline waters of Lake Garda and a vast olive farm, this is definitely a scenically superior stay. Distraction-needing tots will feel right at home here, with a duo of swimming pools, both in and outdoor playgrounds, soft play and epic water tower
While definitely a step above the rest in terms of pricing, when you consider the location of Prairies de la Mer, in the heart of Saint-Tropez’s sensational (and usually SUPER spenny) coastline, we’d consider this 5* campsite a pocket-friendly paradise. Guests can choose from pitches for tents, spaces for mobile homes or gorgeously decorated hotel-esque lodges. All are backed by tropical gardens and fronted by the shimmering sea. Sprawling across the beach there’s plenty of space for little legs to wear themselves out, plus the smattering of wooden playgrounds, petting zoo, pony rides, treasure hunts, twin swim spots, football matches and tennis sessions add to the allure. A seasonal Kids Club runs during the summer 4+, while tweens are in for a real treat, with jet skiing, paintballs, go karting and even their own Friday night barbecues. There are a whopping 6 restaurants to choose from onsite, alongside two small supermarkets to stock up on essentials. J’adore indeed
