March is the month when you can see spring on the horizon, but the UK hasn’t quite got the memo. And it’s a funny one for family travel because everything depends on when Easter falls. Some years, you’ve got the Easter holidays to play with and a whole extra window for a family escape. Other years, you don’t. Chase proper sunshine in the Canaries, Dubai or the Caribbean, head further afield for Thailand or South Africa, or squeeze in one last ski trip before winter disappears. And if you’re after something closer to home, it’s a lovely month for a city break before the summer crowds arrive
Whether you’re travelling with a baby, toddler, younger children or teenagers, we’ve rounded up the best places to go in March with kids, plus the family-friendly hotels we’d actually recommend

For an easy escape without going properly long-haul, the Canary Islands, Morocco, Madeira and Cyprus are all good bets. March brings a little more warmth and longer days, making it a lovely time for outdoor adventures, pool days and exploring before the summer heat and crowds arrive.
And if you’ve only got a weekend, March is a brilliant month for a city break. The days are getting longer, spring is starting to show its face and you can explore somewhere new without the sweltering heat or summer crowds. Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Lisbon, Rome, Barcelona and Seville all make lovely family-friendly weekend escapes at this time of year — and with Easter falling late in 2027, March gives you a particularly useful window for a little pre-summer adventure.
Fancy going further? March is a brilliant month for a proper escape. Thailand is still hot and beachy, the Caribbean is warm and dry, and South Africa is perfect for combining Cape Town, the Winelands and safari. Florida is also a great March option, particularly if theme parks are calling, while the UAE offers reliably warm weather without quite the journey of Southeast Asia.
And if you’re not quite ready to say goodbye to winter, March can be a brilliant month for skiing. The days are longer, temperatures are often a little kinder for beginners and families, and late-season skiing can offer much better value than February half term. Head to France, Italy or Austria for plenty of family-friendly resorts, with the added bonus of being able to ski in a T-shirt at lunchtime on a sunny day
March sunshine = start looking in summer and aim to book by autumn. If you’re travelling over Easter, get moving even earlier – Easter holidays = book 6-9 months ahead
