February half term has a bit of a reputation for being an expensive week to get away – but after months of cold, dark mornings and school-run survival, it’s also the one we’re probably most desperate for
Skiing and alpine escapes can cost a small fortune, and flying halfway around the world to chase the sun isn’t exactly kind to the bank balance either. But a brilliant family holiday doesn’t have to mean remortgaging the house. We’ve been hunting down the trips that give you the most bang for your buck, from a dose of winter sun in the Canaries or Morocco to city breaks and UK escapes that feel like a proper getaway without the long-haul price tag
And, as always, these aren’t just places that look good online. Our recommendations come from our team’s own experiences and the brilliant intel shared by our community of travelling parents, so you can spend less time down the research rabbit hole and more time looking forward to getting away

We’ve been hunting down the family holidays where your money goes furthest during February Half Term 2027 – from brilliant-value stays under £1,000 to all-inclusive sunshine and long-haul escapes around the £5k mark
Tenerife is one of our go-tos for February half term. You get reliable winter sunshine, a relatively easy flight and temperatures that are warm enough to enjoy being outside without having to venture long-haul. The accommodation here is a real game-changer for families. These are enormous, home-from-home suites with one, two and three-bedroom layouts, full kitchens, sprawling living areas and huge terraces overlooking the Atlantic. If you’re travelling with older children, grandparents or just want a bit of breathing room, the two and three-bedroom villas with private pools are brilliant, especially as you can still book them on a half-board package. Pool-wise, it’s a winner for a winter-sun escape, with (heated!) cinematic infinity pools and zero-entry options. The Abama Kids’ Camp (4+) is one of the most impressive children’s spaces we’ve come across anywhere in Europe, with everything from gardening and science experiments to football, zip-lining and excursions to Siam Park or go-karting. Seasonal evening mini parties occasionally mean parents can even enjoy a child-free dinner, which, not going to lie, might be the biggest selling point for us!

Best for: Families wanting spacious apartment-style accommodation, heated pools and brilliant kids’ facilities
Ask us for other options if: You have children under four who need more entertainment than pools and sports facilities, or older children who won’t join supervised Kids’ Club sessions, as all of the children’s activities and entertainment take place within the Kids’ Club
Around £1,380 for a family of 4, B&B, 4 nights, hotel only
Cornwall is one of the UK’s big holiday hitters, but let’s be honest, staying down here doesn’t always come cheap. Treworgey is a great reminder that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a lovely Cornish escape. Tucked away on a 170-acre farm in the Cornish countryside, just a few miles from Looe, it’s the sort of place where you can have a proper change of scene without needing to fill every day with expensive outings. The cottages are the real deal, too. Think original features, lovely interiors, roaring fires and private gardens overlooking the Looe River Valley, with options ranging from one-bedroom hideaways to bigger cottages for extended family get-togethers. And while you’ll have your own kitchen and space to do your own thing, there’s also a ridiculous amount to keep the children occupied too. They can help feed the farm animals, have a go at pony riding, burn off energy in the outdoor playground, or head inside to the indoor beach and soft play. It’s a particularly good option for February half term, when having plenty to do whatever the weather is worth its weight in gold. And while there’s no indoor pool, we reckon you’d barely notice with all of this going on
Best for: Families who want the freedom of a gorgeous self-catering cottage with all the farmyard fun, indoor play and outdoor adventures of a brilliant family holiday park, without the holiday-park feel
Ask us for other options if: You’re craving the sun on your face, or if your children will be devastated if they can’t have a swim. There’s a year-round hot tub and an outdoor pool for the summer, but no indoor swimming pool
Around £940 for a family of 4, 7 nights
Alpine holidays can be a serious investment, particularly during February half term, but Hofgut Wagrain makes a compelling case for a different kind of Alpine escape. With beautifully designed apartments, brilliant family facilities and plenty of mountain magic, it delivers an awful lot of holiday for a much more accessible price point. This family-run resort in Austria has a traditional Alpine feel, with spacious apartments that give you room to spread out, separate sleeping spaces and your own kitchen, so you’re not tied to eating out for every meal. If skiing is on the agenda, the Snow Space Salzburg lifts are just a few minutes away, with a ski bus stopping right outside and lessons available for little ones from age three. Wagraini’s Winter World also has child-friendly practice areas to help beginners find their feet in the snow. But you don’t need to be a family of skiers to make the most of it. There’s a huge indoor play world with trampolines, a climbing wall and bowling alley, plus an outdoor playground and Bobby Car track for burning off some energy. Add indoor and outdoor pools, a baby pool and an adults-only spa, and you’ve got plenty to keep everyone happy. Childcare is included, too, with supervised play for children aged 4+ throughout the year, and 2+ in the winter. We also love the flexibility when it comes to food. Cook in your apartment when you fancy an easy evening, grab a takeaway or head to the restaurant when you want someone else to do the cooking. There’s even an on-site shop for the essentials. And with Salzburg Airport around an hour away, getting here is totally straightforward, too. If you thought an Instagram-esque Alpine escape was out of price for your family, think again
Best for: Families looking for a more affordable way to experience the Alps, whether you’re a family of keen skiers, first-timers or simply after a mountain escape with plenty to keep the children happy
Ask us for other options if: You’re looking for a true ski-in, ski-out set-up, need childcare for babies under two, or would prefer a wider choice of restaurants to choose from each evening
Around £1755 for a family of 4, 4 nights, hotel only
If guaranteed February sunshine is top of your wish list, and you fancy somewhere beyond the Canaries, JA Palm Tree Court in Dubai is well worth stretching the budget for. At around £6,900 for a week for a family of four, it does sit above our price range for this article, but if you’re after winter sun, we genuinely think it’s one of the best-value options out there. We know the UAE might not be everyone’s cup of tea (Becky included, before she visited!), but trust us when we say this feels like a little slice of the Med in the Emirates. Think swaying palms, winding waterways, peacocks wandering around, a long sandy beach and low-rise buildings tucked among lush gardens. It’s a world away from the glitzy Dubai you might have in mind. And there’s plenty to keep everyone happy, from huge suites with room to spread out and nine pools to a waterpark with slides and a giant tipping bucket, mini golf, a kids’ club for ages 4+ and crèche care for babies from four months. There’s a spa for grown-ups, too, while the wider resort’s restaurants mean you can mix things up throughout the week, from beachfront pizzas to Asian flavours
Best for: Families looking for guaranteed February sunshine beyond the Canaries, with brilliant all-inclusive facilities and a little slice of the Med in the Emirates
Ask us for other options if: You need to stick to a budget, would prefer a shorter flight, or are after a smaller, boutique-style hotel rather than a big resort with all the bells and whistles
Around £6,900 for a family of 4, Half Board, 7 nights, flights, luggage & transfers included
If you fancy some February sun but don’t fancy a long-haul flight or long-haul prices, Oasis Lodges in Marrakech is one to look at. And these lodges are a bit of a unicorn in Morocco, giving you a taste of Moroccan culture without sacrificing the space we know families need. There are two- and three-bedroom options, plus lodges with private pools, and while February is technically off-season (guests usually have complimentary access to the neighbouring Oasiria water park from late March to early November), there’s still a gorgeous heated lagoon pool with zero-entry access. There’s also a chargeable kids’ club for ages 6-12 if you fancy a few hours’ respite, but we’d see it as a nice extra rather than the main reason to book. Instead, this is one for families who want separate sleeping spaces, have water babies who’d happily spend all day in the pool (thank goodness it’s heated!) and get cabin fever staying in an all-inclusive resort. You get room to properly spread out, a lovely swim spot to spend your days around and the freedom to dip in and out of Marrakech, with a free shuttle into the medina making it easy to mooch around the colourful souks, stop for fresh orange juice and Moroccan pancakes, and explore the beautiful courtyards
Best for: Families who fancy a bit of February sunshine without the long-haul flight, with a heated pool and the option to swap swimming for sightseeing
Ask us for other options if: You want guaranteed hot-weather swimming, a beach on your doorstep or a resort with loads of activities to keep the kids busy without leaving the hotel
Around £4,596 for a family of 4, B&B, 7 nights, flights, luggage & transfers included
Barceló Tenerife is one of our top Feb half term picks for families with tweens and teens who need more than a mini-disco to keep them happy. There’s a free kids’ club for ages 4-12, complimentary kayaking on the resort’s lake, a climbing wall, volleyball and football, plus seven outdoor pools for a good old pool day. Only one pool is heated year-round, though, so February swimmers, take note. And if you fancy getting out and about, the San Blas nature reserve is right next door, with local experiences such as vineyard visits offering a taste of Tenerife beyond the hotel gates. The coast has a promenade and a small, dark-sand beach nearby, while the fishing village of Los Abrigos is within walking distance for a wander and a seafood lunch. It’s not the one for endless golden sands or a lively resort centre on your doorstep, but it does give you a change of scene without needing to hire a car. Add a transfer of around 10 minutes from Tenerife South Airport and it’s an easy option for families who want plenty to do, a bit of local flavour and the simplicity of all-inclusive, without feeling they’ve signed up to a week behind the resort gates
Best for: Families with tweens and teens who want an all-inclusive with stylish surroundings, plenty of activities and a little exploring thrown in
Ask us for other options if: You’re after a big sandy beach, a lively resort on your doorstep or somewhere with lots of heated pools for a February escape
Around £4,576 for a family of 4, B&B, 7 nights, flights, luggage & transfers included
Not got the annual leave (or the budget) for a full week away this half term, but desperate to escape the UK, and ideally, feel a bit of sunshine on your face? Seville could be just the ticket. Tucked away in southern Spain, it’s one of our favourite contenders for a semi-warm-escape, with a good chance of blue skies and al fresco mealtimes. But where to stay with the kids? City hotels can be a bit of a family travel fail. You either get the gorgeous boutique interiors and brilliant location, but nowhere for the children to sleep other than wedged between you, or a soulless chain that could be in any city in the world. Enter Plácido y Grata, a rather lovely little gem that manages to do both. Think seriously stylish, Scandi-inspired interiors and a central location, with thoughtful family touches that make travelling with little ones easier (although room wise this is best suited to families of 3). There’s no kids’ club or pool, but with Seville’s plazas, tapas bars and churros stops waiting to be explored on foot, you’ll have plenty to fill yourdays. And when little legs finally give up, you can retreat to your beautiful base, rather than a room that feels like it was designed entirely around the conference crowd
Best for: A little February sunshine, a change of scene and a culture-filled few days that won’t eat into a whole week of annual leave
Ask us for other options if: The longest you’re willing to walk this February half term is from your sunlounger to the bar and back again, and you’d rather have an all-inclusive with pools, restaurants and everything else under one roof
Around £1,000 for a family of 3, B&B, 4 nights, flights, hotel only
Fancy a ski trip without the eye-watering Alps price tag? If there’s one thing you can rely on Tiny Travelship for (alongside the in-depth family intel, of course), it’s a left-field discovery or two. You can thank Becky and her passion for affordable hidden gems for this one. Tucked into Poland’s Karkonosze Mountains, Termy Karkonosze is a design-led spa resort we’re pretty confident you won’t find on many ‘Where to go in February’ lists. Karpacz Ski Arena is around 20 minutes away by car, with seven trails, a beginner area and lessons for children aged four and up. With flights for a family of four, including luggage, at around £400 and a week’s accommodation at £1,220, a DIY ski holiday for under £3k could be within reach. Back at base, you’ve got heated thermal pools, a playroom for younger children, a separate games room with PlayStations, an outdoor playground and a shallow children’s pool. Seasonal kids’ activities will be running over February half term, too, although the 2027 timetable isn’t out yet. You’ll need to organise your own ski hire, lift passes and transport to the slopes, but with potentially thousands saved compared with a big-name Alps package, we reckon it’s a pretty tempting alternative. Our top tip? Book one of the rooms with a private jacuzzi
Best for: Families after an affordable, under-the-radar ski escape, without the big-name ski resort price tag
Ask us for other options if: You’d rather have everything taken care of, from ski passes and equipment hire to lessons and childcare, or want the convenience of a ski-in, ski-out resort or an all-inclusive ski holiday
Around £1,220 for a family of 4, B&B, 7 nights, hotel only
If your kids are anything like mine and don’t consider a holiday a holiday unless there’s some swim time involved, let me introduce you to Great Barn Farm. This seriously stylish collection of converted barns in Norfolk has a heated indoor pool (with private swim slots for guests), gorgeous interiors and all the ingredients for a brilliant February half-term hunker-down with friends or family. In fact, I’m doing exactly that, taking over the Farmhouse with my friends and our kids this half term (sorry!). It sleeps up to 16, but the other barns are well worth snapping ASAP. And please, can we give Norfolk a bit more love? It’s so often overlooked in favour of Cornwall, Devon and the Cotswolds, but the coastline is seriously good. Think miles of golden sand at Holkham and Brancaster, crabbing and fish and chips at Wells-next-the-Sea, and seal spotting at Horsey Gap. For a rainy-day plan, Pensthorpe has brilliant indoor and outdoor adventure play, while SEA LIFE Hunstanton is another one to have up your sleeve. Add in gorgeous countryside, lovely market towns and a proper foodie scene (Sculthorpe Mill is top of our list), then come home to your own private swim slot, jacuzzi and steam room. February half-term suddenly looks rather appealing, doesn’t it?
Tiny Travelship Verdict
Best for: Getting all your favourite people under one roof for a swim-filled February half-term, with stylish barns, private pool slots and plenty of Norfolk adventures on the doorstep
Ask us for other options if: You’d prefer somewhere with a kids’ club or on-site activities to keep little ones entertained
Around £2,170 for a family of 10-13, 3 nights
Ever fancied a theme park holiday that the kids will absolutely love, but that doesn’t leave you needing another holiday to recover from it? Meet Efteling, in the Netherlands. Think enchanted forests, fairytale characters popping up when you least expect them, rides that whizz you through magical worlds and proper rollercoasters for the bigger kids, all in a park that feels wonderfully immersive without the full-on Disney ‘overwhelm’. There are gentle rides, carousels and playgrounds dotted around the park for smaller adventurers, while older children can tackle everything from family coasters to the rather more stomach-flipping Baron 1898 dive coaster. And the grown-ups? They get beautifully themed restaurants, food that’s genuinely worth sitting down for, and a park that feels like an experience in its own right rather than a conveyor belt of rides
Best for: Younger primary-schoolers who’ll think you’re the best parents ever, and grown-ups who want the theme park magic without quite so much madness
Ask us for other options if: Your kids are all about the biggest, fastest rides and non-stop adrenaline, or your teens would prefer a full-on thrill-seeking theme park to fairytale magic
Around £2,900 for a family of four, B&B, 3 nights & days of park entry, Eurostar & transfers included
Fancy swapping February half-term grey skies for a tropical jungle, a lazy river and a whole lot of Canarian sunshine? Lopesan Baobab Resort in Gran Canaria is about as far removed from your standard seaside hotel as you can get without leaving Europe. Think towering palms, wooden bridges, waterfalls and African-inspired architecture, all wrapped around a seriously impressive collection of pools. It’s big, bold and unapologetically resort-y, but if your idea of a half-term holiday is keeping the kids entertained while you actually get to relax, you’re onto a winner. There’s a kids’ club for ages 4+, mini discos and evening shows, while four restaurants give you a few options when it comes to feeding the troops. And when you fancy a change of scene, the Meloneras promenade is right on your doorstep
Best for: Families after a sunshine-filled February half term with a brilliant sense of escapism, plenty of pool time and enough going on to keep little travellers entertained
Ask us for other options if: You’d prefer a smaller, boutique-style hotel, want a more design-led feel, or would rather be right on the beach than a short stroll away
Around £4,488 for a family of 4, B&B, 7 nights, flights, luggage & transfers included
An all-inclusive February half-term holiday for less than £3k for a family of four? Yes, really. SOL by Meliá Oasis Marrakech is proof that a week of winter sunshine doesn’t have to swallow the entire holiday budget for the year. Set among palm trees on the outskirts of Marrakech, this family-friendly resort gives you pools, a kids’ club, activities and all your food and drink taken care of, so you can actually relax without mentally adding up every ice cream and lunchtime drink. The main pool is heated in winter, too, although the children’s splash pool isn’t, so worth knowing if you’ve got little water babies who turn blue the minute they get chilly. And if seven days of poolside living sounds a little samey, there’s a free shuttle into Marrakech, where colourful souks, rooftop cafés and snake-charmers in the main square make for a proper change of scene. This is more of a good-value, family-friendly all-inclusive than a luxury escape, but all considered, it’s a pretty savvy way to spend half term
Best for: Families wanting a week of all-inclusive sunshine without blowing the February half-term budget
Ask us for other options if: You’re after full-scale luxury, boutique interiors and foodie credentials, or your toddlers feel the cold and need a heated splash pool as well as a heated main pool
Around £2,856 for a family of 4, All Inclusive, 7 nights, flights, luggage & transfers included
A beach holiday in February that doesn’t require flying halfway around the world? Iberostar Selection Lanzarote Park sits right beside Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca, so you can swap poolside lounging for sandy toes whenever the mood strikes, without a lengthy expedition involving snacks, sun hats and someone needing a wee. With heated pools, waterslides and splash spots for little swimmers, there’s plenty to keep the kids happy even when the Atlantic looks a touch too chilly. Star Camp caters for ages 4+, while the all-inclusive option means fewer negotiations over whether that ice cream is really necessary (it is, obviously). And when you fancy a change of scene, Playa Blanca’s shops, restaurants and seafront promenade are all an easy stroll away
Best for: A February beach break with heated pools & waterslides
Ask us for other options if: You’re after a smaller, boutique-style stay or a quieter resort with fewer families around
Around £4,828 for a family of 4, All Inclusive, 4 nights, flights, luggage & transfers included
