Landed here after deep-diving Falkensteiner family hotels? There’s a good chance you’ve found yourself asking exactly the same question we did…
Why on earth haven’t I heard of them before?
Despite operating more than 30 family hotels across Europe, Falkensteiner is one of the continent’s best-kept family holiday secrets, at least in the UK. Already hugely popular with Austrian, German and Italian families, the brand has quietly built a reputation for creating some of Europe’s most impressive luxury family hotels. The other thing that quickly became apparent after a little research? No two Falkensteiner family hotels feel remotely alike
Rather than recreating the same resort in different destinations, each hotel has its own personality – from resorts dedicated to unforgettable mountain adventures to those that make beach holidays with young children feel wonderfully effortless. Here, we’re focusing on the five Falkensteiner family hotels we think UK families should have firmly on their radar…

From flights and transfers (with car seats) to pre-arranging baby bits, we can do it all, so all that’s left is counting down the days
If you’re looking for a holiday that truly excels when it comes to catering for the tiniest of tots, we’d start by looking at Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora or Falkensteiner Resort Lake Garda
Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora is one of the best-equipped hotels we’ve come across for younger families in quite a while, with complimentary childcare from 6 months, a dedicated baby kitchen, calm shallow waters, separate children’s sleeping areas and just about every piece of baby equipment you could hope to borrow
Meanwhile, the newly opened Falkensteiner Resort Lake Garda already looks incredibly promising for families with the tiniest of travellers. Alongside dedicated baby and sensory spaces, it features a fully equipped Biberonia kitchen with fridges, sterilisers and bottle warmers, as well as baby pools and quiet areas designed specifically with infants and toddlers in mind. Not to mention, as a new parent, there’s not much a pile of fresh pasta and a crisp glass of Italian wine won’t fix
If you’re travelling with a baby alongside older siblings, we’d also put Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido firmly on your shortlist. While many of its headline attractions, like the huge trampoline zone and Europe’s only rooftop ski slope, are aimed at bigger children, the hotel still offers complimentary childcare from 6 months, excellent baby facilities and thoughtfully designed family rooms, meaning your youngest will be equally well looked after while older siblings are busy burning off energy
If your children are old enough to crave a bit more independence (and have seemingly endless energy!), we’d point you straight towards Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido. It’s packed with imaginative attractions they’ll still be talking about long after you’ve unpacked back home, from Europe’s only rooftop ski slope and trampoline world to zip lines, waterslides, sports courts and a dedicated Teen Zone
Falkensteiner Family Hotel Montafon is another brilliant choice for adventurous families, with skiing, hiking, science workshops and the Falky Rangers programme encouraging children to swap screens for the great outdoors
We’d also recommend Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora for particularly sporty kids, thanks to its climbing walls, VR games, sports academies and seasonal football camps
Ultimately, it comes down to whether your family prefers mountain adventures, beachy breaks or action-packed resort days because, truth be told, none of the hotels are lacking in the entertainment stakes
No. Falkensteiner doesn’t operate a traditional all-inclusive concept. Instead, each hotel offers a board basis that suits its style of holiday
Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido and Falkensteiner Family Hotel Montafon, both popular choices for family ski holidays in Austria and the Italian Alps, include generous Full Board packages. Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora, part of the wider Punta Skala beach resort in Croatia, offers either Half Board or Full Board, while Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi in Sardinia can be booked on either Bed & Breakfast or Half Board, with three restaurants (plus a sushi bar) on site and plenty more within easy driving distance
Rather than focusing on unlimited food and drink throughout the day, the emphasis is firmly on quality. Think regional ingredients, live cooking stations and beautifully presented dishes, with the unanimous verdict from families we’ve spoken to that the dining feels elevated far beyond the average hotel buffet
It obviously depends what you personally place most importance on, but in our opinion Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora just about snags the top spot. It combines one of the lowest starting prices in the collection with complimentary childcare from six months, excellent family facilities and access to the wider Falkensteiner Resort Punta Skala, giving you plenty of bang for your buck
If your children will make the most of non-stop activities, Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido also offers fantastic value despite its higher price point, thanks to its Full Board Plus package and truly extraordinary range of entertainment and activities
At the other end of the spectrum, Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi is undoubtedly the biggest investment, but if you’re looking for a genuinely luxurious family beach holiday, we think it more than earns its premium price tag. It’s a conclusion echoed by several parents who’ve stayed at many of Europe’s leading luxury family hotels
Not every Falkensteiner hotel offers the same type of holiday, and that’s exactly what we love about the collection. Whether you’re looking for an activity-packed mountain escape, a laid-back beach holiday or a luxury resort where the children are just as well looked after as the adults, there’s a hotel to match. Here’s our quick guide to choosing the right one
Choose Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido if…
…one of the most frequently asked questions out of your kids’ mouths is, “What are we doing now?”
This is Falkensteiner’s most imaginative family resort, packed with everything from Europe’s only rooftop ski slope and trampoline world to waterslides, zip lines, sports courts, little car tracks and family rooms with hanging nests and play caves. If you’re looking for maximum wow factor against a spectacular mountain backdrop, this is it
Best for: Children who love excitement and families who want non-stop fun and thrills
Choose Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora if…
…you want a beach holiday where everything simply works
Every detail has been designed with families in mind, from separate children’s sleeping areas and complimentary childcare to splash pools and its location within the wider Falkensteiner Resort Punta Skala, giving you access to even more restaurants, sports academies and family activities, all within easy reach of Zadar Airport
Best for: Relaxed beach holidays with all the facilities of a larger resort
Choose Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi if…
…you’re looking for the most luxurious escape of the lot
Set on a spectacular private beach in southern Sardinia, it combines beautiful surroundings, exceptional food and a genuinely five-star atmosphere with thoughtful childcare and family facilities, from bouncy castle evenings as the sun sets to soft play, Sardinian donkeys to pet and an impressive outdoor playground
It’s the hotel we’d choose if you’re seeking some serious adult indulgence, but can’t compromise on keeping the kids thoroughly entertained either
Best for: Luxury-loving families seeking an under-the-radar escape
Choose Falkensteiner Family Hotel Montafon if…
…your family feels happiest when at one with nature (and you love beautiful spaces)
Whether you’re skiing in winter or hiking in summer, Montafon is all about making the most of the mountains and the great outdoors, with nature-led adventures by Falky Rangers, science workshops and fresh alpine air replacing screens and soft play. Where Lido goes big on high-octane fun, Montafon feels calmer, sleeker and more sophisticated, with a slightly more luxurious vibe
Best for: Families wanting an Alpine adventure with a serious side order of style, wellness and luxury
Choose Falkensteiner Resort Lake Garda if…
…you’d like to combine a luxury family hotel with exploring one of Italy’s most iconic destinations
Unlike some of the other Falkensteiner resorts, Lake Garda feels less like a place to stay put all week and more like the perfect base for discovering the region, whether that’s wandering the streets of Salò, hopping between lakeside towns by ferry or spending a day at Gardaland. When you’re back at the hotel, you’ll find everything Falkensteiner does so well, from engaging kids’ club activities to beautiful family-friendly pools, spacious accommodation and excellent dining
Best for: Families who love to balance sightseeing and culture with a beautiful resort for recreation and relaxation

Overall vibe: This hotel? It feels as though someone handed a group of imaginative kids an unlimited budget and asked them to dream up the most exciting hotel possible… before challenging a luxury designer to make sure grown-ups fell in love with it too
It sounds like an exaggeration until you start adding everything up. Europe’s only year-round rooftop ski slope, a trampoline world, heated pools and super cool waterslides, hanging nests hidden inside bedrooms, ziplines, sports courts, playgrounds (including some, again, on the roof). Then, there’s the complimentary childcare from six months and an activity programme so extensive the kids won’t have a spare second to utter ‘I’m bored’
What really surprised us, though, is that despite the sheer volume of things to do, Lido has never once been described to us as overwhelming. You get the sense every element has been designed by people who genuinely understand family life, including the need for adults-only spaces for parents to retreat to!
Location: Set in South Tyrol, on the edge of the Dolomites, Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido swaps sandy beaches for dramatic mountain scenery. It’s one of those rare resorts that looks every bit as epic in summer as it does during ski season, whether you’re hiking, cycling, swimming or sunbathing. Lago di Braies, arguably the most famous lake in the Dolomites (for very good reason), and the Three Peaks are within easy reach, making it a brilliant base for exploring some of Europe’s most spectacular (and renowned) mountain scenery
Rooms: The rooms somehow manage to be both incredibly practical and ridiculously fun. Expect contemporary alpine interiors with clever family layouts, separate children’s sleeping spaces, hanging Falkynests and playful dens that little ones will instantly claim as their own. Families travelling with babies are equally well catered for, with cots, changing stations, bottle warmers, baby baths and plenty more available to borrow, saving valuable suitcase space

The biggest thing that struck us about Falkensteiner wasn’t a particular hotel. It was the way the whole brand approaches family travel. Founded almost 70 years ago as a small guesthouse in South Tyrol, Falkensteiner has grown into one of Europe’s leading collections of luxury family hotels. But despite now spanning more than 30 properties across seven countries, it still feels refreshingly family run, with no scrimping on the thoughtful touches
That means complimentary childcare from as young as six months at many of the resorts, carefully considered family suites with separate sleeping areas, and little details that quietly make life easier, from all-hours baby kitchens and bottle warmers to prams, changing mats and sterilisers ready to borrow

Overall vibe: Some family hotels are designed around children. Diadora feels as though it’s been designed around family life
The whole hotel revolves around a playful maritime concept inspired by the Adriatic Sea on its doorstep. The theme begins in the bedrooms, with family rooms that feature separate children’s sleeping spaces complete with colourful underwater murals, climbing walls and playful details like portholes. Around the hotel, children can climb through submarine-inspired play spaces and splash around in pirate ships and very little ones have a sensory Baby Land, with sounds, textures and colours echoing life beneath the waves
Diadora really removes the stresses of travelling with children. We’re talking a dedicated 24-hour baby kitchen, an astonishing amount of tots equipment, and complimentary childcare from 6 months. Not to mention, Falkensteiner’s trademark impressive ‘edutainment’ agenda (think science lab experiments & mini masterchef fun). Add in the wider Falkensteiner Resort Punta Skala, with extra restaurants, sports academies and over a kilometre of Adriatic beaches to explore, and it’s clear, this is a spot for maximum fun, minimal friction
Location: Just over half an hour from Zadar Airport, Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora has to be one of the easiest luxury beach holidays in Europe to reach from the UK. Sitting on the peaceful Punta Skala peninsula, it combines crystal-clear Adriatic waters with the facilities of a much larger resort, while Zadar’s beautiful Old Town and the charming village of Nin are both within easy reach (approx 15 minutes in the car) if you fancy venturing out for a morning or evening. It’s one of the best family beach hotels in Croatia if you’re looking to minimise travelling once you land
Rooms: We’re not usually big on themed accommodation, but the playful nautical style here doesn’t involve compromising on aesthetics. Plus, every family room includes a separate children’s sleeping space, with many featuring climbing walls, hammocks and submarine-inspired details that little ones absolutely adore. Travelling with a baby? You’ll struggle to think of anything they’ve forgotten, with everything from cots and sterilisers to baby baths, food processors and bottle warmers available to borrow

Luxury and family travel don’t always go hand in hand. Too often, beautiful hotels can feel like places where children are expected to whisper and keep sticky fingers firmly to themselves, while family resorts excel at enthusiastically entertaining and accommodating kids, but at the expense of aesthetics and adult indulgences. Falkensteiner manages to strike a balance that isn’t easy to find
Across the collection you’ll find beautiful spas, stunning scenery, considered design and genuinely excellent food, but the atmosphere never feels overly formal. Children are encouraged to be children. Running across the grass isn’t frowned upon, playgrounds come equipped with comfy seating and a nearby supply of drinks, and you’ll regularly find adults enjoying a spa treatment or leisurely lunch while the children are happily settled in Falky Land

Overall vibe: Yes, Montafon keeps the children entertained, but its real achievement? Helping them fall in love with being active and outdoors
Everything here feels rooted in nature. Through a unique ‘Ecotainment’ philosophy, children are encouraged to swap screens for survival skills, science experiments, Ranger programmes and mountain adventures, while the spectacular Alpine scenery becomes as much a part of the holiday as the hotel itself. Whether it’s skiing, hiking, mountain biking or racing down the Alpine Coaster, there’s a lovely emphasis on creating experiences outdoors
As the only family hotel in the German-speaking world that’s part of The Leading Hotels of the World, Montafon feels noticeably more sophisticated and sleek than many family resorts. Think soaring timber architecture, huge windows framing the mountains, an exceptional adults-only spa and beautifully designed family spaces that never feel overrun (the lobby alone has an enormous indoor play tree, tube slide connecting floors & soaring bouldering wall). Elsewhere for the kids you’ll find indoor and outdoor pools, waterslides, a Science Lab, sports spaces, cool digital multimedia area and complimentary childcare from 6 months
Location: Set in Austria’s breathtaking Montafon Valley, Falkensteiner Family Hotel Montafon enjoys a spectacular position at the foot of Golm Adventure Mountain. The Golm gondola is just a five-minute walk away, making it wonderfully easy to access family-friendly skiing in winter and hiking and mountain biking trails throughout the warmer months. And that Alpine coaster we mentioned? Under a 10 min stroll away (and honestly, do activities get much cooler?). Just under two hours from Innsbruck Airport, we’d happily recommend it as one of the best luxury family hotels in Austria, every bit as rewarding both in deepest winter and once the snow has melted
Rooms: Just like the rest of the hotel, the rooms strike a lovely balance between design-led contemporary style and thoughtful family living. Warm natural materials, calming neutral tones and mountain views create a wonderfully relaxing feel, while clever layouts include separate children’s sleeping areas. As you’d expect from Falkensteiner, babies are exceptionally well catered for too, with everything from cots and bottle warmers to changing mats, bed guards and night lights available to borrow

One of the reasons we were so keen to put this guide together is because no two Falkensteiner family hotels are carbon copies of each other
If you’re looking for an activity-packed mountain escape, you’ll probably fall for Falkensteiner Family Resort Lido. Dreaming of an easy beach holiday with younger children? Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora should be high on your list. Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi brings five-star Sardinian luxury to the table, while Falkensteiner Family Hotel Montafon is made for families who’d rather spend the day hiking, skiing or exploring the mountains before returning to a sleek, eco-conscious retreat. And with the brand-new Falkensteiner Resort Lake Garda now open, the collection continues to evolve
The common thread isn’t that every hotel looks or feels the same. It’s that every one delivers the same standard of thoughtful family hospitality that quietly removes everyday stresses

Overall vibe: Capo Boi pulls off a party trick very few family hotels manage: it makes you forget you’re actually staying in one
Perched above one of Sardinia’s most beautiful private beaches, the first impression created by the low-slung, whitewashed buildings scattered across immaculate green lawns is one of understated Mediterranean luxury. Think dramatic mountain backdrops, bougainvillea tumbling over archways, swaying palms and impossibly turquoise water stretching far into the horizon. It feels peaceful, refined and wonderfully grown up. If somebody told you this was an adults-only hideaway at first glance, you’d probably believe them
Then you start spotting the details. A huge shallow splash pool with a gently sloping beach-style entry. Sardinian donkeys waiting for tiny visitors to say hello. A beautifully designed playground tucked discreetly into the gardens. Bouncy castle evenings as the sun sets. A thoughtfully designed Falky Land, complete with impressive soft play and complimentary childcare that never dominates the atmosphere. This is a luxurious five-star resort that quietly proves family-friendly doesn’t have to mean loud, hectic or covered in primary colours
Location: Set on Sardinia’s unspoilt south-east coast, Falkensteiner Resort Capo Boi occupies an enviable position overlooking its own private bay, around an hour from Cagliari Airport. While many families happily spend the week enjoying the beach and resort, it’s also brilliantly placed for exploring this beautiful corner of the island. The colourful town of Villasimius is just a short drive away, while boat trips, hidden coves and some of Sardinia’s clearest swimming spots are all within easy reach. If you’re looking for one of the best luxury family hotels in Sardinia, we’d struggle to think of many better. Better still, it still feels delightfully under the radar compared with many of Europe’s better-known luxury family resorts
Rooms: The rooms feel completely at one with their surroundings, favouring relaxed Mediterranean charm over ultra-slick contemporary design. Breezy neutral interiors, natural textures and generous family layouts create an immediate sense of calm, while larger rooms and villas add separate children’s sleeping areas, private terraces and peaceful gardens. As with every Falkensteiner hotel, families travelling with babies are exceptionally well catered for, with cots, bottle warmers, sterilisers and other essentials available to borrow before you’ve even thought to ask

Forget anticlimactic kids’ clubs with a handful of toys, scattered colouring sheets and outdated décor. Falkensteiner’s children’s concept, Falky Land, is built around curiosity, creativity and getting outdoors. Whether that’s learning survival skills with the Falky Rangers, taking part in science experiments, cooking pizzas, exploring forests or trying a new sport, there’s a real emphasis on experiences children will remember long after the holiday ends, in spaces that truly spark their imagination. It’s a philosophy that runs through the whole collection, and one that feels increasingly refreshing in a world dominated by screens

Overall vibe: Lake Garda has never been short of beautiful hotels, but what it has been missing? A luxury family resort purpose-built for modern parents
Enter: the new Falkensteiner spot. Rather than asking families to choose between exploring one of Italy’s most iconic destinations and staying in a resort that revolves around kids, it quietly delivers both
The family facilities are some of the most comprehensive in the Falkensteiner collection. There’s a 1,500m² Falky Land complete with indoor climbing walls, bowling, multimedia gaming room, Botanic Science Lab, MasterChef kitchen, theatre, splash zone and indoor water slides, alongside age-specific clubs stretching right through to teens. Babies are treated to dedicated sensory and sleeping spaces, a fully equipped baby kitchen, soft play, splash pools & quiet areas designed for the slower rhythm that travelling with little ones brings
Location: Set just outside the elegant lakeside town of Salò on the south-western shore of Lake Garda, Falkensteiner Resort Lake Garda enjoys one of the best positions on the lake for families wanting to explore. Salò’s cafés, boutiques and promenade are within easy ‘lets-grab-an-aperitif-while-baby’s-fallen-asleep-in-the-buggy’ reach, Isola del Garda (the largest island on the lake) is close by, and Gardaland, Italy’s biggest theme park, is around a 40-minute drive away. Verona Airport is just under an hour away, making this an easy long-weekend option as well as a brilliant base for a longer Italian family holiday. If you’re searching for one of the best luxury family hotels on Lake Garda, this deserves to be firmly on your shortlist
Rooms: The rooms strike a lovely balance between contemporary design and relaxed Italian living. Warm timber, woven textures and soft neutral tones are lifted by playful bobbin details and cheerful pops of Mediterranean colour, from mustard yellows and terracotta reds to lake-inspired blues. The result feels bright, playful and effortlessly inviting, while generous family layouts, balconies and separate children’s sleeping areas ensure they’re every bit as practical as they are beautiful
Perhaps our biggest takeaway after researching Falkensteiner and speaking to tonnes of parents who’ve stayed? It’s the little things people remember. The thoughtfully curated collection of baby equipment that saves half a suitcase. The Half Board Plus dining and live cooking that feels more like eating at a fantastic local restaurant than a standard buffet (while doubling as entertainment). Family suites with hanging nests, castle beds and separate themed children’s rooms that make bedtime almost as exciting as the rest of the day (hallelujah to no bedtime negotiations!)
Individually they’re small details, but together they’re what makes Falkensteiner feel so cleverly considered. It’s this attention to family life that elevates the collection from simply being a group of luxury family hotels in Europe to somewhere families return to year after year
