Is Puglia a good destination for families?

Puglia, tucked away in Italy’s sun-drenched heel, feels like one of the country’s best-kept secrets – and a brilliant choice for families in the know.  The South is often dubbed the “Maldives of Italy” thanks to its powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, it offers incredible beaches and hidden swimming spots that feel far removed from the crowds. Beyond the coast, Puglia is rich in culture, with beautiful cities and towns that rival Florence and Rome for atmosphere, but at a far gentler pace – think baroque Lecce, storybook Alberobello and whitewashed villages dotted with trulli. Families can expect exceptional food that even fussy eaters love, from fresh pasta and wood-fired pizza to gelato on repeat, all enjoyed in relaxed, family-welcoming settings

How am I best to book my holiday?

We’ve designed Tiny Travelship to make booking your family holiday as simple, transparent, and stress-free as possible. If a hotel is an official Tiny Travelship partner, you’ll be directed to their dedicated listing page in our digital directory, where you’ll find detailed information on everything from flight & transfer times to room layouts, and monthly temperature guides. On these pages, we also provide honest advice on the best way to book. This might be via Tiny Travel Agency, in the instance they price match what you would pay by going direct (whilst seamlessly planning your escape end to end, for free, and even unlocking extra perks!). Or, you might get the best rates by booking with the hotel themselves (though sometimes Tiny Travel Agency can still step in and help, if you’re eager to forgo any holiday headaches). If a hotel isn’t an official partner, we’ll either link you through to booking.com to complete your booking – meaning we make a small commission – or flag that we’d recommend booking via Tiny Travel Agency (again, so you can access great rates & added benefits, whilst receiving complimentary support and insider intel). Either way, rest assured, every hotel we feature has been tried, tested, and genuinely loved by fellow well-travelled parents

Our favourite for cheap and charming

Masseria Garrappa

For the traditionalists, Masseria Garrappa is a beautifully rustic B&B dating back to the 16th century. This historic hotel offers a convivial stay immersed in southern Italian culture. It boasts a prime location, just a short stroll into the marvelous town of Monopoli. The service is exceptional, providing warmly welcoming hospitality to guests of all ages. The on-site restaurant is considered one of the best in the region. The glistening pool is framed by olive trees and surrounded by shaded sun loungers. One for older offspring, the entry age for this hotel is 10+

Our favourite for serene solitude

Trullo Roverella

Trullo Roverella is a modern trullo with generous proportions, seamlessly combining tradition with modern amenities. Inside this conical grey rooftop, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with a smart TV, and a mezzanine master bedroom. An annex to the side features a freestanding tub next to floor-to-ceiling windows. Design elements pay homage to the region’s heritage, including vintage vases, wicker baskets, and plenty of pottery. The outdoor private pool is the jewel in this conical crown, and the price is pleasingly affordable

Our favourite for group getaways

Villa Le Cerase

Nestled in the peaceful countryside of Salve, Villa Le Cerase consists of three sympathetically converted trulli surrounding a serene private pool. Ideal for friends or extended families, it accommodates up to seven people. Inside, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen, double bedrooms, and plenty of baby equipment. Outside, you can enjoy safe, secure, and spectacularly scented Mediterranean gardens. The famous secret swimming spot at Marina Serra is nearby, along with Puglia’s best beaches and tastiest restaurants. Don’t miss Taverna Del Porto!

Our favourite for a modern masseria

Furnirussi Tenuta

Behind white-washed walls reminiscent of the region’s farmhouses, Furnirussi Tenuta is a modern and newly manmade masseria that combines countryside tranquility with comfort and convenience. The all-suite rooms resemble mini apartments, featuring separate sitting areas and private gardens or terraces. They are light, bright, and styled with clean lines and tasteful minimalism. Although there’s no Kids Club, thoughtful design touches such as the gently sloping gradient on the lake-like pool make this a perfect Puglian retreat for parents

Our favourite for super chic childcare

Borgo Egnazia

One of our favourite family hotels in Puglia. For a parental dream come true, head to Borgo Egnazia, a sprawling fairytale village adorned with limestone labyrinths, hanging lavender posies, olive trees, and citrus groves. Designed to resemble an authentic Apulian settlement, this resort offers effortlessly elegant rooms and villas scattered around a candle-lit central piazza. The resort exudes rural romance at every turn, but it’s not limited to adults only. Children are warmly welcomed with plenty of family facilities, including a Kid’s Club that hosts theater workshops, dancing, and storytelling. Highchairs are available in all restaurants

Our favourite for fantastic feasts

Masseria Calderisi

A foodie fantasy incarnate, Masseria Calderisi houses a cornucopia of country comforts in a cosseting cocoon of luxury. This former 17th century farmhouse has been lovingly restored and transformed into a boutique beachfront bolthole. Behind the ancient walls you’ll find airy aesthetics. Bathrooms come kitted out with Aesop toiletries and private terraces are awash with the sweet scent of figs, lemons and limes

There’s a private stretch of sandy shores on your door, with a shallow sea for minis and sun lounger wine service for grown ups. End days spent soaking up the sun with bountiful feasts; where menus divinely combine home cooking and fine dining. Tiny Travellers will love befriending the two adopted donkeys, resident chickens, rabbits and peacocks. Adults will appreciate the pampering on-site spa. Perfectly positioned to make the most of both coast and countryside, Puglia’s trademark-Trulli-town of Alberobello, white-walled Ostuni and famous Polignano a Mare (with its iconic insta shot) are all closeby

Best beachy boutique hotel

Canne Bianche

A seafront boutique hotel perched on the edge of the waters in Torre Canne di Fasano – a sleepy fishing village in one of Puglia’s more hidden corners – Canne Bianche lures families with its locally plucked cuisine, sea-facing swimming pool and desirable postcode. Classical Apulian meals are dished up in the onsite restaurants, where flavour bombs of pork fillet, crispy pancetta and tomato-studded focaccia will have you drooling at the dinner memory. Facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, gym, games room and bikes to borrow, plus babysitters can be arranged. Puglia’s heavy hitting tourist spots of Polignano a Mare, Ostuni and Alberobello are all in easy reach, and when sites are ticked off, your tranquil base beckons. This is a slice of Italian simplicity that’s as delicious as the hotel’s signature palate-pleasing pasta

Best for memory-making entertainment

Masseria Torre Coccaro

A more overtly family-friendly boutique hotel, Masseria Torre Coccaro sits within a historic fortified farmhouse and offers guests a unique taste of Italian living. Tucked behind whitewashed walls, 36 characterful rooms epitomise shabby chic style, think: canopied beds, jewel-toned doors, linen drapes and antique accessories. A sprinkling of suites comes with their own pools and private picturesque patios, with 2 bed villas catering fabulously to families. Guests can make use of the hotel’s beach club, just 5 minutes away, with gang-adventures including photography sessions, horse riding and boat trips. A seasonal Kids Club runs throughout the summer (where the set up includes a water-based playground with sprinklers and slides) along with pizza lessons, magic shows, jazz & movie nights, bbqs and village feasts!

Best for rooms for large families

Masseria Montenapoleone

The oval shaped saltwater pool is undeniably the star of the show here, where the lagoon-like entry is ideal for little legs, surrounding double canopied daybeds made for snoozing and captivating views gazing out to the coast. Family suites come a close second, with 2 double bedrooms, a duo of bathrooms and living room, sleeping up to 6 guests in total. Memory-making experiences include cooking classes, olive oil tasting and a magical dinner under the stars. While there’s no official Kids Club, little’uns will love the nature playground, with swings, slides, a climbing wall and sandpit. And on the subject of bucket & spade fare, the closest beach is only a short cycle away. Built upon a working organic farm, menus are carefully crafted around seasonal produce, proudly serving the flavours of Puglia with creative flair
