Enter the Oblu Xperience Ailafushi (translating as ‘family island’ in the local dialect), only a 15 minute speedboat ride from Malé International Airport. A stay here is infused with fun, relaxation and Maldivian charm, where all room bookings are all inclusive meaning all drinks & meals (in the main buffet restaurant & bar), activities and water sports (30 mins per day) are included in the price. You can also choose to wine & dine in the à la carte under-ocean restaurant ‘Only Blu’ or tuck into surf & turf at the ‘Copper Pot’ food truck for an additional charge. At night, the resort comes alive with a party vibe, with DJs and live music, perfect if you like your evenings a little lively. The Kids Club (from age 4+) is one of the largest in the Maldives with its own pool, a games arcade and a dedicated food corner to satisfy their snack requirements

Tots as tiny as 12 months are welcomed into the Scott Dunn Explorers Club at Niyama Private Islands – making it one of the youngest entry ages for supervised sessions on the archipelago. Split across twin islands – Chill and Play – one is reserved for loved up couples travelling solo, while the other focuses on families. Aquatic entertainment abounds here, with everything from boat trips and snorkelling, through sailing, wakeboarding, kitesurfing and Manta-Ray-meeting on the agenda. The setting itself is hard to beat – with bone blonde beaches and crystal clear waters. Mini Master Chef classes are taught to budding gourmands, while their parents are equally, exceptionally, catered to. A hotspot for foodie families, dining here is both delicious and a little bit different. Descend under the ocean at Subsix, where Japanese-Peruvian fare is served beneath the waves; or take to the skies at treetop Nest restaurant. Not stopping there – guests are ferried by speedboat to Edge, while Took Took on the beach offers irresistible street food

Are you ready for a true castaway island experience? The brand new Raaya by Atmosphere is a 5-star paradisiacal Indian Ocean hideaway that only opened in August 2023. From breezy beach villas (with interconnecting family suites), to overwater retreats , the styling here is inspired by natural, local materials and contemporary Maldivian architecture. There are 8 different dining options here offering vibrant flavours, from mouthwatering pan Asian to BBQs on the beach, there’s even a cocktail bus that tours the island daily (make mine a Mai Tai!). As with most Maldives hotels, there is a plethora of activities available, if you’re in the mood, but if you’d prefer to kick back, relax, enjoy the sumptuous spa and serene infinity pools, then that’s cool too. The Kids Club here (age 4+ but babysitting available for younger guests) centres around the resorts island hero, Seb, a fictional shipwrecked artist who has left clues for the children to explore along with his pirate ship, hidden treasure and watchtower overlooking the sparkling ocean

OZEN LIFE MAADHOO
Just a short hop (or 45 minute speed boat ride) away from Male airport, OZEN LIFE MAADHOO is one of the most accessible (and affordable) archipelago abodes. Guests can choose to bed down in EARTH villas, found on the sublime sand, or WIND villas perched over the azure ocean. With 4 restaurants on site, culinary cabin fever is easily avoided, while dining at Minus Six Meters – the one-of-a-kind underwater experience – is definitely one for the memory bank. Tots are taken care of in the Kids Club (4+), with both in & outdoor play areas, their own shallow splash pool, nature walks, treasure hunts and cinema screenings. Offspring don’t quite make the age limit? Younger babes are welcome to stay & play too, when accompanied by parents or the brilliant babysitters who can easily be booked. While there is no house reef, you can join the twice-daily snorkelling excursions to spot small sharks & turtles, plus the spa here, with treatment rooms overlooking the water, is undeniably standout

If you’d prefer to avoid the seaplane after touching down at Malé, then the Sun Siyam Olhuveli is a dreamy destination. The accommodation here is particularly picturesque with traditional straw roofs & resort styling that offers a sense of place, although worth noting only children over 12 are able to stay in the overwater villas.
