There’s jungle trekking and mangrove kayaking awaiting the intrepid traveller, whilst sun-worshippers won’t be disappointed by the bevy of beaches

Aonang Phu Petra Resort, Krabi 

Calling all parents with pulled purse strings and lofty requirements, we’ve got the budget boutique for you. Introducing Aonang Phu Petra Resort, a low key hideaway with rooms starting from under £100 per night. You’re not beachfront here (the nearest sands are a 10 minute drive away), but the serene swimming pool and killer views alone would command sky high rates anywhere else in the world. Kid’s facilities come in the form of a sweet swing set next to the pool and a paddling part for little legs. Rooms are clean and comfortable, but it’s fair to say the interiors match the price tag. This may be more of a basic bolthole, but with so many other worldly day trips on the doorstep, you’re really only there to sleep and swim – and in that case, for that price, it’s an easy yes from us

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas. Krabi 

Arriving by speedboat to Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas first sets the scene for a pretty special stay. Tucked away on a private bay, framed by Krabi’s iconic limestone cliffs, the destination is definitely worth the journey here. The H2O highlights are second to none; with ocean-gazing swimming pools, watersports, plenty of private pools and even al fresco jacuzzis on the balconies. Actively encouraging parental R&R the Kids Club (3+) is suggestingly situated right next to the spa, which is all the excuse we need!

Koh Jum Beach Villas. Krabi 

Just 60 minutes from Krabi airport, the 24 home-from-homes at Koh Jum Beach villas may vary in size and layout, but the eco-luxe decor is universal. A calling card for families who want a true taste of Thailand, Koh Jum has been billed as the country’s last remaining retro island experience. Fully equipped kitchens makes self-catering a breeze, but the resort restaurant (fed by the organic onsite garden) means you don’t need to lift a finger for meal prep, if you don’t want to! There aren’t any large supermarkets on Koh Jum, so make sure to request a shop stop as part of your transfer if you want to stock up on anything edible. Many of the private villas (which range from 1-5 beds) have private pools, but the communal watering hole in the centre of the grounds is a great social spot for smalls

With beachfront access to Krabi’s famed Railay Beach, this 4* hotel’s first thumbs up from us is for location, location, location. Surreal scenery doesn’t require a bank-breaking spend either, with year-round affordable availability. The seafaring swimming spot is the main attraction, with only a mere matter of steps between pool and ocean. Rooms range from tropical style cottages to two bed Family Pool Villas, where guests of the latter can supervisor their mini merpeople from a cleverly placed hammock

AKIRA Lipe Resort, Koh Lipe 

Fronted by buttercream-coloured sands, AKIRA Lipe Resort is a refreshingly priced pad with lots to allure families. Starting with the rooms themselves. ‘Villa Suites’ feel the most traditional, with plenty of dark wooden accents, while the ‘Superior Pool Access’ feel lighter and brighter, and come with the bonus of being diving distance from the communal stretch of water snaking down the resort. There’s a cute playroom, best suited to babies & toddlers, with a ball pit and handy sofa for parental supervision. The 360 sea scenes from the main pool are hard to beat, and the location (a mere 5 minute stroll into Walking Street) is seriously handy too

Ten Moons Lipe Resort, Koh Lipe

One of the island’s most sought-after destinations, all-villa Ten Moons Lipe Resort holds court on the most serene corner of Sunset Beach, where every home-from-home is steps from the sand with picture perfect panoramic views. Not only brimming with natural beauty, Koh Lipe is a great base for easy exploring, with everywhere on the island walkable, with ‘Walking Street’, where the majority of the restaurants, bars and shops are, being just a 10 minute stroll from the hotel.
