Trou aux Biches Beachcomber Golf Resort and Spa 

Trou aux Biches doesn’t just offer the opportunity for some serious R&R, but there’s an irresistibly vibey buzz about it too. The seemingly never-ending stretch of baby-soft sand is loved by locals; evening entertainment centres around traditional dance and music; while artisan shops and true-to-country cuisine can be found a short stroll away. Generous suites surround their own semi-private pools, meaning it’s never hard to find a quiet swim spot, while secluded private villas are tucked in between frangipani trees, beautiful ponds and coconut groves. Every age group is catered for, from the official Kids Club for the smaller set (3+), to water skiing and windsurfing for teens and the forward-thinking (free!) weekday babysitting service for the littlest of legs (1-2). You’ll be hard pushed to pull yourself away from this IRL tropical daydream, but the catamaran cruises departing from Grand Baie (a 15 minute drive away) really shouldn’t be missed

LUX* Le Morne 

In the wild south west corner of this island idyll you’ll find LUX* Le Morne. With her powder-soft-shoreline and crystal clear waters, this Indian Ocean abode tops the list for the best beach. True to its name the hotel oozes luxury, with impeccable service, bespoke wellness treatments, four outdoor pools and five on site restaurants. Heritage Le Telfair 

Calling all postpartum parents, Heritage Le Telfair is where you want to head. With most Kids Club’s on the island operating a strictly over 3s policy, this heaven-sent haven shakes up the standard supervision scene with an entry age of 0 into the (free!) Baby Timomo club. Operating a 2:1 policy of children to nurses, you know your little ones really are in the best of hands here. A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, you’ll find an unspoilt paradise awaiting you, home to an award-winning golf course (with a junior academy), sensational spa, state-of-the-art gym and pristine beach frontage. Wildlife safaris into the neighbouring nature reserve are easily arranged, where guests can spot boar and deer, before cooling off in secret waterfalls. Colonial-style suites are spacious in size and come with interconnecting options, while the all inclusive dining spans 12 restaurants, from farm-to-fork local fare, through Asian-fusion, north Indian cuisine and Italian wood-fire pizzas. Located on the South coast, it can feel a little windier here, but the gorgeous heated pool is one of the island’s warmest

Shandrani Beach Resort & Spa 

If you’re looking for a more affordable all inclusive, Shandrani Beachcomber is the name to know. Nestled on the East coast, it boasts one of the most sheltered shorelines, with not one, not two, but three beaches to choose from. Surrounded by the azure waters of a marine park, a delicious dip is just the beginning here. The range of restaurants ensure taste buds are tickled daily, while the commitment to local culture is evidenced in the top-knotch evening entertainment. The Kids Club caters for children from 2 years’ old, with drawing, dancing and crab spotting on the agenda. Teens and tweens needn’t feel  hard done by either, the raft of watersports available is more than enough to keep them happy

Four Seasons Resort at Anahita 

We’re going to put a stake in the ground with this statement – the Kids Club (4+) at the Four Seasons Resort is the best on the island. Want to know why? From the very beginning staff go out of their way to bond with their charges, meeting pintsized guests the moment they check in, with gifts in hand! The complimentary ‘Hobbit Village’ houses its own swimming pool, amphitheatre, bakery and sandpit. Older kids will go gaga at the ‘Karokan’ clubhouse, where they’ll find a ping-pong table, cinema and the latest computer games to hand. A no-brainer for big broods who usually struggle to find an adequate set up, villas here range in size from two to five beds, and come with that all important private pool. The superlatives don’t stop there either. The gorgeous overwater spa is award-winning; there’s two golf courses to hit up; a zero-entry main pool; and the service is just as legendary as you’d imagine. The icing on the cake? A short speedboat transfer ferries guests to the Four Seasons’ very own Ile aux Cerfs cove – a private island paradise that allows you to live out any castaway fantasies, with a drink in hand – courtesy of the La Plaz Beach Grill. With 9 restaurants, a complimentary Kids Club (3+), tennis court, gym and trio of pools, you undoubtedly get the perks of a sprawling resort, but setting themselves apart from the big name brands on the island, conversation is at the core of everything The Ravenala Attitude does. Little ones in particular will love the Marine Discovery Centre, where they can kayak through the mangroves, follow the snorkelling trail, join a marine biologist on a glass-bottom boat tour, or visit the mini aquarium

A 10 minute ocean commute transports guests to Shangri-La Le Touessrok, a Mauritian island escape delivering a heavy dose of family friendly fantasy. With six beaches to its name, this is an A* aquatic playground, with banana tubing and glass-bottomed boat rides to water skiing and kite surfing are all available. The T-Club (4+) is widely regarded as one of the island’s best with a treehouse and rope bridge playground to its name. For mum and dad, complimentary green fees are offered on the two championship golf courses, tennis coaching comes courtesy of a seasoned pro and the fine dining cements the Shangri-La Le Touessrok as a full blown culinary getaway

One&Only Le Saint Geran

In a sea of 5* resorts, the iconic One&Only Le Saint Géran isn’t afraid of any competition. Mauritius’ first luxury hotel, tucked away on its own private peninsula, it arguably lays claim to the best address on the island. The staff here have genie-in-a-bottle service down to a T, and you can expect next-level luxury at every turn. A honeypot for gourmands who know their stuff, there’s something to please everything palate in the handful of ravishing restaurants. There’s a Kids Club (3+) for the younger set as well as separate offering for tweens to teens. Treasure hunts, five-a-side football, snorkelling trips, barbecues and bonfires fill Tiny Traveller’s days, allowing parents to slip off to the sanctuary-like-spa or catch their own daytime nap next to one of the three infinity pools

The Oberoi Beach Resort 

To stay at The Oberoi Beach Resort is nothing short of a feast for the senses. The food here is exceptional, so gather your gastronomy-loving gang and reserve your spot asap. A great year-round-resort, the pools here are heated and the premium postcode well sheltered from the wind. While super family friendly, rest assured there’s plenty of spots to retreat without children, should you wish. After a gleeful dispatch of your charges to the Kids Club (4+), simply head to the adults only pool for a little peace and quiet. One of the island’s most luxe hotels, service here is uniformly flawless. With 20 sprawling acres of tropical gardens to call its own, neither the beach nor the pool ever feels crowded. Dive into the pristine coral reefs, snap on a snorkel, or jump in a kayak. The underwater world really is your oyster

C Mauritius 

If the idea of a large resort is more of a turnoff than turn on, but you’re quite taken by the idea of family facilities, C Mauritius is the answer to your parental prayers. A 4* all-inclusive resort, things are done a little differently here. With only 116 rooms the vibe remains intimate, but the hotel has plenty going on, too. Imagine yourself kitesurfing, snoozing in the spa, working up a sweat on the tennis court, dancing to DJs on the beach, or boarding a boat around the lagoon – and that’s just the beginning. You won’t find a Kids Club, but cleverly there are entertainers on staff who tailor make weekly programmes based on the ages and activity appetites of their smallest guests. Tiny touches include the treasure chest of toys on the beach, trampoline on the sea, and sweet charm bracelet little’uns are given at check in. While the culinary choice here isn’t huge, with only a handful of restaurants, the food is seriously good

LUX* Belle Mare

Design hotels may be two-a-penny nowadays, but Kelly Hoppen designed digs? Not so much. A punchier than most style pedigree already under its belt, what further elevates LUX* Belle Mare above other aesthetically blessed abodes, is the impressive dining scene. Expect drool-inducing Indian dishes by a Michelin-starred chef; interactive food stations; piles of freshly baked pastries; and its very own inventive ice cream parlour. Stomachs satiated, we move to the appetising accommodation. Superb suites and villas are sparingly scattered throughout the gorgeous grounds. Plump for a 2-bed villa for your own dedicated butler. There’s a Kids Club (3+), babysitting service and health-oriented children’s menus in all the restaurants, plus the semi-private beach is safe and secluded. If you’re looking for a getaway big on leisure and little on logistics, take note
