If you’re looking for a budget boutique bolthole, with plenty of foodie flex, Memmo Baleeira is the name to know. Neighbouring the hotel, on the street towards the harbour town of Sagres, you’ll find plenty of local restaurants to taste test. Back at base, this design hotel goes big on facilities; with a heated pool, in & outdoor play area, Kids Club 4+ and even a climbing wall. There’s a restaurant onsite, should you not wish to venture far, and the spacious sleeping quarters provide a brilliant bang for your buck
A shiny, yacht-filled marina flanked by buzzing bars and fine dining destinations, Portugal’s Vilamoura is for those wanting less of a local town and more of a glamorous scene. It’s an easy walk to Domes Lake Algarve – one of the country’s flagships for family fun. The lay of the land here works brilliantly for broods, from the gorgeous, sloping, sand bottom pool and Kids Club (4 months +), to the handful of amazing onsite restaurants
A short flight, extended summer and brochure-beautiful beaches, make Ikos’s outpost in Mallorca a winner for families, while the proximity to Porto Petro itself (a sweet fishing port & marina) appeals to those wanting both resort perks & easy exploration. The only hotel in the Ikos collection where you can easily supplement days of flying & flopping with a walkable taste of local life, it’s fast gaining legendary status on the mum club circuit. While the postcode may be different from its more secluded sisters, the dreamy details Ikos is famed for are still found; with a Kids Club 6 months +, Michelin-starred all inclusive dining and super slick service
Those wanting an authentic Portuguese experience combined with more family facilities than we can shake a stick at, will want to hotfoot it over to Martinhal Sagres. You’ll likely have heard of the unparalleled entertainment on offer here. We’re talking; a total of Kids Clubs from 6 months, early dinner sittings, genius baby packing service, watersports aplenty and daily football sessions, but the secret trump card is the location. The charming town of Sagres itself is a 30 minute walk away and is brimming with write-home-about restaurants
Perched on the edge of historic Lecce, the sights & smells of Puglia’s baroque city are only a 10 minute stroll from boutique bolthole La Fiermontina. You’ll find 18 rooms in this 18th century masseria – a sophisticated stay with Juliet balconies, a serene sculpture garden and sparkling swimming pool. The vibe here is really much lazy-hazy, and while you won’t find any official children’s entertainment, bambinos of all ages are warmly welcomed (in the traditional Italian way). Babysitters can be arranged, buggies are available to borrow, interconnecting rooms provide plenty of space, and there’s modern Med onsite restaurant will happily cater to tiny taste buds
With pole position in the southwest corner of Marrakech’s medina, this royal riad is ideal for those looking to dip in and out of sightseeing and sunbathing. A botanical oasis in the action-packed city, the amount of space guests are treated to here is a lovely surprise. The souks are literally outside, but once you walk through the hotel’s door they feel a million miles away. Serenity reigns supreme, with a lush garden dotted with hammocks and a generous heated pool at the heart of the property. Again, there are no family-focused facilities per se, but the onsite restaurant and walkability to plenty more, makes dining a doddle, while the gloriously green grounds are perfectly suited for little ones to run around
On the banks of luscious Lake Garda, nestled amongst botany-bountiful grounds, Du Lac et Du Parc is rich in both nature and nurture. It’s no secret that you’re in the right neck of the woods for dramatic mountain views here, but the ability to quickly fill your camera roll isn’t the only thing this hotel has going for it. Home to a Mini Kids Club (3+), 3 swimming pools and 3 gourmet restaurants, it’s a triple threat for families facilities too. An undisputed watery wanderland, aquatic adventures await around every corner, from paddle boarding and kayaking to swimming and sailing. Restaurant-rich Riva del Garda is only 10 minutes away by foot. Oozing Italian charm you’ll find historic streets lined with local boutiques, gelato shops and plenty of picturesque spots to people watch
Sitting stylishly on Paphos’ promenade, just steps from the city itself, aesthetically alluring Almyra gives guests a tranquil base in prime position for exploring. Having recently undergone a huge regeneration, the centre now harmoniously blends ancient tombs & archaeological parks with a taverna-peppered waterfront and slick, shop-lined streets. The undisputed bolthole to book in this neck of the woods, Almyra is known both for her family friendliness and foodie prowess. The highly-recommended Kids Club starts at 4 months, whilst the meals dished up by the onsite restaurants have been favourably compared to Ikos. While there isn’t a splash pad onsite, toddlers easily make friends around the gorgeous children’s pool. If you do fancy some aquatic adrenaline, there’s a fully fledged waterpark a 6 minute drive away. With a comprehensive ‘Baby Go Lightly’ packing service, and guaranteed interconnecting family rooms, it’s easy to see why Almyra is worshipped by all who visit
Nailing all our local town holiday requirements, picture-perfect Alcudia in Mallorca is dripping with character. From atmospheric squares and regional restaurants to beautiful boutiques and a weekly market, these storied (pedestrianised!) streets are primed for exploring. The base to return to is Zafiro Palace Alcudia for a 5* all inclusive combining dining delights with easy entertainment. The setup here is undoubtedly family-friendly, with spacious suites, complimentary Kids Club (4+) and even a pirate ship splash pool headlining the show, but woven into this parent-pleasing picture are gorgeous grown up touches too. Think: sunken sunbeds in the pool, a swish spa and elegant interiors
There really is no parent-pleasing criteria that Angsana leaves unchecked. Close to a local town? The quaint fishing village of Benitses is a short stroll away. Visit for the smart marina, taverna-lined old quarter and calm sandy cove. Want to see the sights but not enough to spend on a hire car for the week? Frequent buses run to time-hewn Corfu town. And on the subject of proximity perks – the airport is only 20 minutes away. Moving onto accommodation. Alongside traditional hotel rooms, guests can also bed down in private pool villas – delivering the holy trinity of space, privacy & hotel facilities! And if that hasn’t convinced you, the downtime-enabling Kids Club (4+) is sure to seal the deal
Made famous by Victoria Hislop’s ‘The Island’, pintsized Plaka is the gateway to storied Spinalonga (an ancient fortress and former leper colony). Beautiful boat trips aside, this historic village also boasts a scattering of traditional tavernas peppered around the central plaza. A short 20 minute stroll away lies flagship Domes of Elounda – which many consider a temple of family friendliness. It’s impossible to go wrong with room choice here, exclusively a ‘suites and villas’ only outpost, all holiday home-from-homes are spacious and come equipped with a private pool or al fresco jacuzzi. A brand that is synonymous with child-centric-chic, genius touches include adult-only areas for grown ups to escape to whilst offspring are ensconced in the Kids Club. Boredom is a word that’s never stepped foot inside this resplendent resort, thanks to the surplus of swimming pools, olive-lined private beach and the Core open air plaza – home to pop-up shops and food trucks. A holiday here is one Greek Odyssey we could definitely get on board with. For pram-pushing parents, it’s worth knowing the walk is along a road without a pavement, so we recommend this route for older kids and jumping in a 2 minute cab for anyone with younger tots
Less small town, more upmarket marina, Rubicon yachting harbour, and its swish selection of designer shops and seafront restaurants, is a hop, skip (and 10 minute) jump from Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel. A characterful Canarian crash pad awaits guests at this larger than life resort, A dreamland for smalls, there’s a (chargeable) creche for 4 months +, a free Kids Club for 3 +, evening entertainment, an underground aquarium and plethora of playgrounds. Whilst by no means a boutique bolthole, Princesa Yaiza manages to maintain an air of adult aesthetics through clever separation; Kikoland, the sensory stimulating, Kids Club is set well apart from the two palm-fringed pools, meaning mum and dad can still soak up some semblance of serenity. The hidden in plain sight theme continues inside the hotel, where kids will go ga-ga for the soft play room – and parents will rejoice at the supervised sessions
Whilst the party people head to Hvar Town, peace-seeking parents should make a beeline for lesser-known, less-flashy, Stari Grad. A unesco-listed culture-rich town, the pace of life here is slower, with cobbled alleyways brimming with bistros rather than bodies. Families staying at Valamar Amicor Green Resort can reach the sense-tingling sights and restaurants of Stari Grad in less than 20 minutes (and yes, that’s accounting for little legs too). It’s rare to find a hotel that marries local culture and fully fledged family facilities as well as Valamar Amicor Green Resort. The spiraling spaghetti waterslides will keep tots on their toes, but the muted colours mean they’re not an eyesore for parents. The soothing design continues into the suites and villas – all of which come with private outdoor space, ensuring no adult’s sun-time is sacrificed for a napping child. Mornings can be spent sampling Croatian coffee in town, before afternoons, with kids in the Kids Club, allow for a spot of day-time dating for mum and dad
Nobu Ibiza Bay has all the ingredients for a stellar family getaway; a world-renowned Kids Club (4+); destination dining; interconnecting rooms; easy, breezy 15 minute airport transfer; and the icing on the cake? It’s a short stroll to the trendy Marina Botafoch, and an ideal 30 minute – nap-inducing – pram-accompanied walk to Ibiza Town. Location, location, location really is the name of the game here. Whilst Ibiza is known for its sublime shoreline, it’s not as easy as you may think to find a beachfront base on the White Isle – most hotels are built into the cliffside. Proving that elevated family meals isn’t the only thing Nobu Ibiza Bay knows how to do differently, this hotel has sands within staggering (or crawling) distance of your bed. Parents lounge by the sleek pools, whilst tots enjoy a cool calendar of classes, ranging from graffiti to sushi making. Us, jealous of our children’s childcare? Brb, we’re just checking if there’s an age limit on the DJ lessons…
Boasting a prime position in Port Soller, Hotel Esplendido is a real find for location-savvy families. Sitting pretty on the promenade opposite the sea, the only commute from bed to beach here is across one pedestrianised road. Children flock to the communal pool, where friends are easily made, bonding over dive bombing. Parents can supervise from the surrounding loungers or tag team, for turns in the small spa. Whilst you won’t find a Kids Club here, the boat trips, sea-swims and abundance of ice creams to taste test provides ample entertainment. Port Soller itself is a charming town, with plenty of restaurants to keep mealtimes interesting. Don’t miss the wooden tram departing outside the hotel for the scenic journey to Old Town Soller – considered to be one of the prettiest in the whole of Spain
Time has stood still in magical Antiparos. It’s the type of place where old men sip ouzo under ancient oak trees, and days are spent drifting from beautiful beach to traditional taverna. A pocket-size paradise of only 35 square km, it’s made for idle exploring, with everything within walking distance. Kastro Antiparos is the archetypal Agean abode, with sugar cubed rooms and apartments surrounding a sparkling swimming pool, overlooking the azure ocean. Leaning into a go-slow vibe, days here are soaked in tranquillity. Switching off is made easy, thanks to the (famously friendly) Hellenic hospitality, excess of scenic spots to sit (or have a daytime snooze) and onsite restaurant dishing up modern Mediterranean fare. A ferry ride from Athen to Paros, and then onto Antiparos, the journey to this dreamy destination is well worth the air (or sea) miles
Uncover the best of both worlds at Minos Beach – a design-led gallery-hotel-hybrid that welcomes families with open arms. Embodying the very essence of a grown up getaway; rooms are refined; the slinky spa is sexy; the three restaurants showcase the very best of Cretan cuisine; and babysitters are on tap. A true seaside sanctuary, bungalows and villas grace the oceanfront promenade, with gin-clear waters to the front and private pools to the back. The glorious grounds are dotted with sunbeds so criminally comfy it’s almost impossible to tear yourself away from. But get up you should, especially when the lovely fishing town of Agios Nikolaos is such a short stroll away. Set around a sparkling lagoon, browse artisanal boutiques, visit the weekly farmers’ market and satiate your stomach with the cornucopia of cafes
Picturesque Parga is a lesser trodden seaside town on the western side of Greece. Giving the Caribbean a run for its money, the beaches here are blindingly beautiful. A strong sand and sea game isn’t Parga’s only trump card. Cascading down the hillside are rainbow-hued homes, tasty tavernas, a fairytale Venetian castle and strollable seafront harbour. Neighbouring this traditional town is Parga Beach Resort – an all inclusive with a difference. Forget towering hotel rooms, here low rise bungalows dot the lush landscape, and evening entertainment comes in the form of Greek nights with live music and dancing. There’s a newly opened Kids Club (4+) for tots and a sprawling spa (to make the Gods proud) for parents
A blissful beach break and city crashpad rolled into one, the President Hotel, Valamar Collection is perfectly positioned on the Lapad Peninsular for serene sunbathing and hassle-free sightseeing. Dubrovnik’s Old Town can be reached by car in fifteen minutes, but the reason this adriatic abode made the list? The upscale restaurants and scenic beach clubs of Babin Kuk are a short stroll away. Back at base, the childcare offering here is seriously impressive. Known as Maro World, Tiny Travellers are treated to soft play, a movie theatre, Game Lounge and giant trampoline area. There’s supervised sessions for 3+, but those younger are more than welcome to stay and play with parents too
A stunning new addition to Montenegro’s hotel scene, the One&Only Portonovi boasts a A* address on the Adriatic Riviera. Dripping in glamour, this is an uber luxe stay for those who like to stay true to locality too. Just over an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik, Boka Bay is brimming with breathtaking beauty, from the crystal clear coastline to the peppering of pretty medieval towns. It’s proximity to the Portonovi marina that lands the One&Only a spot on this list, with the restaurants, bars, beach club, playground, and shops only a 10 minute stroll away. A heavy hitting culinary prowess comes courtesy of beachside Sabi, from a Michelin-starred Italian chef, Tapasake Club, from an ex-Nobu mealtime magician, and Montenegrin, La Veranda. The Kids Club (3+) is another standout (and handily free for guests), with organised games, crafting, movie nights, scavenger hunts and fashion shows. A winning hand for parents of the easily bored, there’s also kayaking lessons, SUP boarding, badminton and beach volleyball competitions to partake in. Add to the picture a private sandy beach, six swimming pools, and generous family accommodation (including private villas), and you’ll have to excuse us while we pick our jaws up from the floor
The golden sands and calm, cerulean waters outside of Aguas de Ibiza are eye-wateringly pretty. Sprinkled with plenty of sunbeds, the gently lapping waves here are prime fodder for bucket and spade toting toddlers. Aside from the sensational beach, this prime-fringed postcard comes up trumps for easy-to-reach restaurants too, with the hotel just a 15 minute walk from Santa Eulalia – one of Ibiza’s most family-friendly resort towns. Onto the childcare scene. The Kids Club here is free to use for those 3+, while any Tiny Travellers younger than the official entry age are welcome to stay and play with parental supervision. If you can prise them out, there’s a trio of pools and flower-filled gardens to explore. Chefs also work their magic in the onsite restaurant, with the rooftop dining destination regarded as one of the island’s culinary highlights
