Whilst not overtly child-centric (you won’t find a Kids Club here), Six Senses Douro Valley is an exercise in easy elegance for parents; babysitters are available; children under 5 dine for free; cots & highchairs are provided; and (unlike a lot of luxury hotels) waterbabies are allowed in the gorgeous outdoor infinity pool. Alongside farm-to-fork dining and world-class wine, an abundance of fresh air fun is also on the menu; from kayaking and mountain biking to river cruises and ancient tree climbing. A real feast for all senses, stomach, sight and soul are expertly catered to in equal measure here. Starting with the visual delights – set in 10 acres of protected forest and glorious gardens, you can’t help but physically drop your shoulders and quieten your mind in these sublime surrounds. Next, onto Six Senses Douro Valley’s culinary prowess. We’re not sure about you but we definitely parent A LOT better with a glass of the country’s finest plonk in hand. Le Moulbot, Tavira

If parent pleasing to you means privacy and space, with lots of quality time spent with your family , we’ve got the Portuguese pad for you. Le Moulbot is a gorgeous house in the hills in the heart of the ‘authentic’ Algarve, a mere 45 minute drive from Faro airport. Inside the white-washed walls you’ll find two ‘bedrooms’; a master upstairs with an eclectic wraparound mural, and a sofa bed in the downstairs sitting room. Keep the living room as an after hours adult space and make use of the separate study as a makeshift nursery. The infinity pool is the star of the show, with breathtaking views and stunning surrounding scenery. There’s a large shallow section of the pool which is ideal for tiny toes to splash in. If you can drag yourself away from this personal paradise, the charming town of Tavira is a 15 minute drive, as are some of the region’s most beautiful beaches. Fabrica is a stunning stretch of sand on the Ria Formosa – a coastal lagoon natural park of sandbanks and sea. Whilst Fabrica is more of a BYOBG (bring your own beach gear) vibe, nearby Barril has all the amenities a family could need whilst remaining one of the quietest beaches on the southern Algarve coast. Parking is easy, and there’s a handful of beachfront cafes, plus a playground and super clean toilets complete with baby change. What more could you ask for?

Village by Boa, Porto

Live like a local in Porto with a stay at Village by Boa, a boutique aparthotel that should be on every style seeking parents’ radar. Village is a collection of self catering apartments spread over five buildings where location, location, location is the name of the game. You’re smackbang in the heart of the city yet also enclosed within your own private oasis of peace. Step outside the apartments and you’ll find charming streets lined with cafes and buildings adorned with iconic blue and white tiles. Bolhao is one of our favourite areas in the city – the indoor food market is not to be missed, nor is Confeitaria Do Bolhao, a traditional bakery institution with all the sweet treats Willy Wonka could have ever imagined. Plus, it’s only a three minute walk from Trindade station with a direct line to the airport. The design led apartments really are the best of both worlds; combining the luxury and services of a five star hotel with the flexibility and space of an airbnb. The fully equipped kitchens provide the perfect space to whip meals, and are then brilliantly cleaned up afterwards by the daily maid service. Each apartment features local artisan furniture alongside Japanese and Nordic elements – making for a truly unique aesthetic offering. Quinta da Comporta, Comporta

Ninety minutes south of Lisbon, in a landscape of sand dunes, pine forests and vineyards, sits Quinta Da Comporta – an ancient rice farm which has been gloriously converted into a super stylish boutique hotel. Comporta, once a sleepy fishing village, has made a name for itself in recent years as the favoured destination for a fashion forward boutique beach break. An effortlessly authentic style permeates from every fixture and fitting – the epitome of Comporta cool. Bright whites, wood, wicker and Balinese accents dominate, with interiors playing homage to classic Comportan cabanas. There’s a choice of spacious pool villas, townhouses, apartments and bedrooms. Bikes are available at the hotel (with baby seats attached) and there are some incredible beaches within easy reach (Melides and Caravalhal are two of our favourites). Comporta itself is full of gorgeous boutiques to browse and delicious restaurants to sample. We highly recommend Sublime Comporta (make sure you book in advance for a lunch time sitting) and Comporta Cafe for a sunset dinner on the beach

Martinhal Sagres, Algarve

Set in a natural park with its own private sandy beach, on the western tip of the Algarve, you’ll find Martinhal Sagres – a hotel that prides itself on being as relaxing and fun for parents as it is for children. The family friendly ethos is implicit everywhere, with everything being designed with parents’ needs in mind; from the decor, which manages to be sleek, contemporary and functional (think curved edges on tables and comfortable seating), to the on site supermarket stocked with essentials including formula, baby food and nappies. Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, Alentejo

If a holiday for you means being wined and dined, look no further than Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, a family owned vineyard and farmhouse hotel located in the heart of the Alentejo region, an hour from Faro airport. There is a simpler menu for kids, but the chefs are also happy to whip up other things your tiny tot may require. If you want a romantic date night, babysitters are on hand. Don’t miss the picnic BBQ on the weekends – complete with live music, fresh floral arrangements and incredible food. There are six lodgings to choose from – five on the estate and another in the nearby village of Albernoa. Suites are spacious, cool and comfortable – Alentejan design at its best. Whilst this isn’t a kids club kind of hotel, there’s plenty available to keep minis (and mamas) entertained. Kids can try their hand at a whole manner of activities rooted in enjoying the great outdoors; from horseback riding and archery to canoeing, treasure hu3nts and orienteering missions. Gazing out across (an undeveloped stretch of) the Atlantic, this surfers-hideout-meets-family-friendly-boutique-hotel delivers on aesthetics, ambience & activities. Re-writing a boho beach break to include tiny travellers, Noah Surf House is nirvana for stimulation seeking smalls. There’s yoga, pilates, skateboarding, cycling, trampolining and, of course, waves to be ridden. Feel like relaxing? Soak up the serenity from the ocean-facing infinity pool, or luxuriate over leisurely locally-led lunches from the onsite restaurant

Areias do Seixo Villas, Santa Cruz

Just a few minutes away from Noahs Surf House (take a peek at the previous recommendation on this list) Areias do Seixo Villas are perfectly set up for those travelling en masse – be it a multi generational break, or big gaggle of besties with their tiny travellers. Combining serious sustainability credentials with statement style and thoughtful family touches, each abode sleeps between 6 and 8 (plus cots). If you have toddling tots with you, you may want to make a beeline for the Superior Blue Villas , as all other options feature floating stairs – which means eyes on for those finding their feet. Perhaps the biggest tick as far as we’re concerned? Each villa has it’s own private pool. The surrounding setup couldn’t be more perfect for families – between the short stroll to the sea, organic garden to explore, organised activities & Family Village (think trampolines, tipis and play frames). If you have mini merpeople on your hands, but personally shudder at the thought of relaxing next to a splash pad, the genius, sloping, sand-bottomed swim spot at Domes Lake Algarve is the answer to your prayers. Domes’ only outpost outside of Greece, this Portuguese pad delivers on the brand’s trademark easy elegance, against a slightly different (but no less beautiful) backdrop. You’ve got the highly-coveted Kids Club (4 months +) dreamy decor, and friendly service, set against sparkling sands and a postcard-perfect ocean. The airport is only a 30 minute drive away, and those who like to get out and about on holiday, are in luck. A siren call for parents seeking laid-back luxury, Pine Cliffs is the name to know for a faultless fly & flop. The easy peasy 30 minute airport transfer sets the scene for this hassle free holiday. Stretching over 168 acres of Algarve, there’s no denying this is a behemoth of a place. But somehow (and credit where credit’s due to the layout & staff), it never feels soulless, quite the opposite in fact, with a proudly Portuguese design dominating. And with size does come some pretty impressive perks. With 8 pools, the largest Kids Club in the region (6 months +), a football pitch, tennis courts, 9-hole golf course and superb spa, there’s little reason to leave this resplendent resort. But, step outside of the beautiful bubble and you’re treated to one of the area’s best beaches – complete with a scattering of charming restaurants for a further taste of the local life

While all inclusive resorts may be two-a-penny in Greece and Turkey, they’re actually quite rare in Portugal. And a marrying of all-you-can-eat dining PLUS spacious villas, well that’s almost unheard of. Which is why we’re so excited to introduce you to the Eden Resort in the Algarve. A new kid on the block, recently opened Independente Comporta is another shining star for the unspoiled Alentejo region. Digging deep into locality, everything from the agrarian aesthetics to the sharing plates dished up at onsite Maroto showcase the best of the region. Outside at Memmo Baleeira, you’ll find a serene pool (complete with safe paddle space), little-leg-friendly climbing wall, trampoline and sea views at every turn, while indoors there is a super sweet play area for tiny travellers. Onsite, you have a restaurant and chic pool-side bar, plus it’s a short stroll to the local eateries in Sagres village itself. Hankering for a Comportan beach break with down-to-earth prices? We’re not going to lie, there’s nothing like the satisfaction of finding a gorgeous hotel with a minimal budget. Not your average family resort, this ‘hotel’ is a hostel at heart, with a communal kitchen space and additional charge for housekeeping. Don’t let memories of backpacking dissuade you though, this stylish spot has heavy hitting design credentials. Just 9 rooms surround a small, shared, swimming pool and enclosed gardens. Breakfast is served for you, and while there isn’t a restaurant on site, the many beach clubs Comporta is famed for, are in easy reach
